Senior Counsel, Oncology

Senior Counsel position in AbbVie's Oncology division providing legal strategy and commercial counsel across regulatory, compliance, and operational matters. The role partners with cross-functional teams to support product launches, marketing strategies, and managed healthcare initiatives while managing external counsel and influencing business outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary legal advisor to Oncology business unit on commercial, regulatory, and operational issues
• Provide counsel on new product launches, patient support, marketing strategies, and regulatory submissions
• Advise cross-functional departments on FDA regulations, anti-kickback statutes, False Claims Act, and competition law
• Develop and implement compliance programs, policies, and training initiatives
• Select, direct, and manage outside counsel on complex legal matters and projects

Requirements

• Juris Doctor from accredited law school and current bar admission in at least one U.S. state
• Minimum 5+ years in-house pharmaceutical counsel, life sciences law firm, or government attorney experience
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical laws, FDA regulations, and drug promotion/registration requirements
• Strong business acumen and ability to balance legal risk with enterprise objectives
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills translating legal issues to business context
• Experience managing complex matters autonomously with cross-functional collaboration
