Join our growing Cancer Care team! We currently have a full time position at our Liberty campus. This is for a day shift opportunity with limited weekend coverage. Pharmacy technicians will perform sterile compounding in state-of-the-art clean rooms using training that we provide to ensure medications are safe and accurate. Most of a Pharmacy Technician's day in the Cancer Center will be spent performing sterile compounding of cancer medications in our clean rooms. In addition, Pharmacy Technicians are responsible for daily cleaning of the sterile compounding areas, stocking supplies, calibrating equipment, scanning orders into the electronic medical record (EPIC) to ensure accuracy, placing and receiving drug orders and stocking automated dispensing cabinets (Omnicell). Pharmacy technicians use critical thinking and problem solving to prepare complex chemotherapy and other medications.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

• Prepares medications for dispensing: After passing an initial competency, independently prepares basic sterile compounds with accuracy.
• Distributes medications and stock items: Accurately pulls medications for stocking in ADS machines. Accurately stocks medications in ADS machines. Uses CSM accurately if required. Maintains distribution records as required.
• Maintains Pharmacy Inventory: Restocks pharmacy inventory in appropriate quantities from designated back up areas. Ensures rotation of stock and inventory. Pulls outdates. Receives/unpacks drug orders from wholesaler, maintaining appropriate inventory records.
• Operates pharmacy computer systems: Accurately utilizes basic computer programs to accomplish daily tasks.
• Compliance and recordkeeping: Follows departmental and hospital policies. Completes required documentation associated with daily work, meeting regulatory standards.
• Patient Care: Provides courteous, professional service when assisting patients, caregivers, and staff. Approaches daily work with a patient first mindset.
• Medication Safety: Practices medication safety basics such as barcode scanning and double-checking labels; promptly reports discrepancies to pharmacists or leaders. Reports safety events in Health System reporting tool.

Required Education and Experience

Preferred Education and Experience

• High School Graduate or GED.

Required Licensure and Certification

• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Kansas locations: CPhT required by first board renewal
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Missouri locations: None
• Pharmacy Technician Registration - State Board of Pharmacy Kansas and/or Missouri - per work state upon Hire
• Technician must maintain certification on an ongoing basis and complete all continuing education requirements.

Preferred Licensure and Certification

• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR equivalent National Pharmacy Technician Certification
