Full Time - Athletic Nutrition Center Restaurant Assistant Manager

Compensation Pay Rate: $22.00–$25.00 per hour. This estimate reflects the hourly wage range we expect to pay for this position upon hire, depending on factors such as the selected candidate’s experience, training, education, job‑related skills, internal equity, and operational needs. Additional information about our compensation scales is available at: Summary Assists the Manager in providing management support to create an environment that promotes teamwork, continuous improvement, learning, customer satisfaction, excellent quality of product, and high standards of service. Utilize staff resources effectively to increase business, manage workload and job costs, achieve production, and provide quality services to customers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist unit manager with operations staff, including hiring, disciplining employees, setting work priorities, conducting staff meetings, evaluating performance, and directing work assignments to ensure effective operations. Assist in preparing daily sales reports to determine profitability and make daily adjustments to staffing and inventory levels based on sales volume. Plan and prepare work schedules and assign employees to specific duties and tasks. Assist in generating sales promotion activities and direct workers in merchandising and stocking of location. Assist unit manager in daily unit operations to ensure that proper procedures and guidelines are followed for provision of quality products and services. Assist manager to train crew leads on proper product storage and rotation. Assist in checking deliveries from vendors for quality and accuracy of product. Resolve customer issues and complaints to ensure customer satisfaction. Supervise and train employees engaged in food preparation, cash registers, inventory taking, reconciling cash with sales receipts, keeping operating records, or preparing daily records of transactions. May perform work of subordinates as needed. Develop and maintain working relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, student organizations, faculty, staff, and university personnel. Complete opening, daily, and closing procedures/checklists in accordance with company policies and procedures. Assist unit manager to ensure company policies and procedures are followed: cash handling, food handling, safety, uniform, and meal/break policies. Ensure continued, consistent compliance with all company policies and federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including employment, safety, and health. Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required The minimum requirement for applicants is a High School Diploma or a General Education Development (GED) degree; at least one year of experience in mid‑to‑high volume convenience retail and/or at least one year of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An Associate’s degree in Business or Convenience and Retail is preferred. Food Handler Certificate Food Handler certificate from the County of San Diego preferred. Key Skills Strong communication, supervisory, and mathematical skills required. Reading, comprehending, and interpreting general business information; writing correspondence with proper spelling and grammar. Effective communication with customers and employees; presenting information and responding to questions. Basic math concepts: calculate discounts, portions, percentages, and volume. Apply common‑sense understanding to carry out general written or oral instructions; multitask; prioritize work; detail orientation; analytical, organizational, and management skills. Utilize a computer and a variety of office machines and equipment. Effective verbal interaction and ability to hear/hear sounds. Operate food service equipment, cash register, and office equipment; lift or carry up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions and Hazards Work is regularly performed in a food production area with frequent exposure to food fumes or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to hot, humid conditions and cleaning chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work Schedule Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs, including opening, mid‑day, and closing shifts, night shifts, weekends, and holidays throughout the year. Background Check A background check will be conducted after a conditional offer of employment is extended and accepted, and must be satisfactorily completed prior to beginning work. Background checks will include verification of education and employment histories, criminal records, national sex offender registry check, and references. Additional checks may include credit, motor vehicle, and professional license verifications depending on the nature and scope of the position.
