Translator ( English-Spanish )

Under the direction of an assigned administrator, the Translator/Interpreter provides accurate oral interpretation and written translation services in both English and a designated second language (Spanish). This role plays a key part in supporting Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings, parent-school communications, and community outreach while maintaining efficient office workflow. Interpretation Services: Provide accurate oral interpretation during IEP meetings, assessments (psychological, speech, health), parent-teacher discussions, and community interactions. Explain applicable laws, policies, and special education procedures clearly. Written Translation: Translate IEPs, official reports, educational forms, newsletters, correspondence, and public event notices between English and Spanish with high accuracy in grammar and syntax. Administrative Support: Schedule and coordinate meetings, manage department communications, answer inquiries, direct callers, maintain filing systems, and prepare meeting agendas or minutes. Education & Experience: High school diploma (or equivalent) combined with 2 years of experience providing oral and written translation services for children and adults. Language Skills: Complete fluency and high proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing both English and Spanish. Knowledge Base: Familiarity with special education terminology, IEP procedures, California Education Code guidelines, and professional interpretation techniques. Licensing: Valid California Class C driver’s license and ability to travel between school/program sites as needed. Certifications (Preferred): Interpreter or Translator Certification.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


Provide oral interpretation services for IEP meetings, communications with parents and the
public, and written translation of IEPs, forms, reports, correspondence, and other instructional
and educational materials in both English and a designated second language; translate and
interpret procedures and written statements as needed.

Provide accurate interpretation for district employees who have responsibility for administering
other assessments determined through the IEP process (i.e., psychological, speech, health,
occupational, etc.).


Provide accurate interpretation and explanation of laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies, and
procedures as they pertain to the IEP process.
Prepare and disseminate (as appropriate) audio and written translations of IEPs to parents as
requested.


Establish and maintain recordkeeping system for translation services offered and conducted
throughout the IEP process.
Schedule, arrange, and confirm IEP meetings, home visits, and other appointments or meetings
for program directors; reserve conference rooms when necessary.


Answer telephones and screen callers; take and relay messages as appropriate; greet and assist
visitors; refer callers and visitors to proper department or personnel; respond to inquiries and
provide general information concerning Madera County Superintendent of Schools (MCSOS)
policies, procedures, and established guidelines in the designated second language.
