Location: Columbus, Ohio
Job Type: Full-time, hourly/non-exempt
Pay: $36–$50 per hour, based on experience, plus performance bonus opportunities

Mechanical Optimizers is seeking an experienced Lead Commercial HVAC Installer with strong commercial sheet metal expertise to join our Columbus team. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for directing the daily work of an installation crew and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and according to our quality standards.

The ideal candidate is an experienced commercial HVAC installer who can lead and develop a crew, communicate effectively with customers and project leadership, anticipate jobsite needs, and take ownership of project quality from startup through final walkthrough.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead commercial HVAC installation crews through sheet metal and ductwork installation, including job kickoff, task delegation, progress monitoring, startup, and final walkthrough.

• Review project scope, job packets, materials, and site conditions before work begins to ensure the crew is properly prepared.

• Coordinate installers and apprentices to promote productivity, quality, and professional development.

• Communicate scheduling risks, material shortages, jobsite concerns, and potential change-order needs to the Construction Field Manager.

• Maintain high standards for workmanship, equipment startup, commissioning, labeling, documentation, and customer-site care.
• Communicate professionally with customers regarding jobsite expectations, project discoveries, progress, and closeout.
• Ensure company vehicles, tools, equipment, and crew conduct meet company standards.
• Train and coach less-experienced team members and address workmanship or performance concerns as they occur.
• Minimize callbacks and punch-list items through consistent quality control and crew accountability.
• Support toolbox talks and ensure compliance with company safety policies and jobsite requirements.

Qualifications

• Extensive commercial sheet metal installation experience required, including ductwork layout, installation, field modifications, and interpretation of plans and specifications.

• Commercial HVAC piping experience is a plus.

• EPA Section 608 certification required.

• Five or more years of commercial HVAC installation experience preferred.
• Previous crew-lead or field-leadership experience strongly preferred.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage personnel, schedules, quality expectations, and customer needs simultaneously.
• Experience with HVAC equipment startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and job documentation.
• Working knowledge of applicable codes, permitting requirements, and safe refrigerant-handling practices.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Trade school education or equivalent field experience preferred.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Work in indoor and outdoor environments, including rooftops, attics, mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, and occupied customer facilities.
• Regularly lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance for heavier items.
• Safely use ladders, hand tools, power tools, gauges, meters, and mobile technology.
• Comply with PPE, driving, lockout/tagout, refrigerant-handling, and jobsite safety requirements.
