Road Maintenance Supervisor The Valley County Road & Bridge Department is seeking a dedicated, high-performing professional to step into the critical role of Road Maintenance Supervisor. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, this position serves as the backbone of daily field operations, providing direct leadership, mentorship, and direction to a diverse crew of Road Maintenance Technicians. The ideal candidate will seamlessly balance field leadership with essential administrative duties. This individual ensures that all county-owned roads, bridges, and rights-of-way remain safe, efficient, and fully compliant with county policies and statutory regulations. The Supervisor strictly enforces county safety policies alongside OSHA and MSHA regulations, investigates any job-site incidents, and leads formal safety meetings and training sessions. Personnel Supervision: Acting as a key leader in workforce development, they participate in interviewing and hiring new talent, conducting formal performance evaluations, managing employee relations, and administering disciplinary action when necessary. Public Relations & Field Support: This professional resolves complex public inquiries and right-of-way complaints with a customer-service mindset. While primarily a supervisory role, they are ready and able to operate heavy equipment or commercial vehicles during emergencies or severe staffing shortages. To be successful in this role, candidates must possess a strong background in heavy civil infrastructure and a proven track record of firm, fair leadership. To be considered for this position, applicants must possess: A High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by technical training in civil construction or public works administration. Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Tanker endorsement. A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in road maintenance or heavy civil construction. At least five (5) years of formal supervisory or crew-leader experience. Deep knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and heavy equipment used in gravel and asphalt road maintenance, drainage systems, and structural bridge repairs. Advanced knowledge of winter road maintenance strategies, anti-icing techniques, and snow-removal logistics. The ability to accurately read, interpret, and execute engineering blueprints, grade stakes, and construction specifications. Proficiency in basic computer applications (including email, spreadsheets, asset management software, and digital timekeeping systems) to manage departmental reporting. Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to foster teamwork, manage diverse crews, and hold staff accountable to high performance and safety standards. When applying, please provide a resume or detailed work history that shows your relevant training and experience.
