Research Technician - Nettles Lab

Classification Title Research Technician Classification Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Job Description The Nettles lab is looking for a research technician to study the role of estrogen and growth factor signaling in breast cancer. Candidates with backgrounds in tissue culture, molecular biology, and fluorescent microscopy will be given preference. The successful applicant will be expected to work under general supervision, independently and in collaboration with others; perform research for projects and provide interpretation and initial analysis of results; investigate, troubleshoot and modify methods and procedures; assist in designing experiments; perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned. Responsibilities And Duties Designing and setting up experiments for studying protein expression with fluorescent microscopy. Designing and setting up assays such as Western Blots for quantifying proteins in various solutions, tissue culture supernatant, and/or biological specimens. Thawing, cryopreserving, and maintaining immortalized cell lines in culture. Analysis and interpretation of data, including graphing results using various software's, preparing reports, and presenting results through slides and/or written reports. Preparing/receiving/sending shipments containing biological specimens. Placing orders, including negotiating with vendors, editing quotes, and preparing an inventory of items received. Checking the status of equipment around the lab. Bookkeeping, including recording the details and results of experiments on lab notebooks. Expected Salary $18.13 per hour. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with tissue culture is required. Preferred B.S. or B.A. in Biology/Microbiology/Biochemistry or related field is preferred. Excellent organizational, presentation, and collaboration skills. Ability to work independently and troubleshoot experiments. Keep accurate records and follow protocol instructions with great attention to detail. Experience with biochemistry assays (e.g., Western blot, protein expression and purification) is highly desirable. Health Assessment Required Yes.
