Maintenance Mechanic

The Maintenance Mechanic plays a vital role in supporting maintenance and repair activities in a highly automated solar module manufacturing plant. This position focuses on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting complex equipment issues, and performing repairs to ensure continuous operation, reliability, and optimal performance of advanced manufacturing equipment and systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform and assist with scheduled preventive maintenance tasks on manufacturing equipment and systems in accordance with established procedures.
• Support the diagnosis and troubleshooting of complex equipment malfunctions and failures, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
• Conduct routine inspections of equipment and machinery to identify potential issues, wear, and opportunities for performance improvement.
• Repair or replace defective components, parts, or systems to restore equipment functionality and minimize production downtime.
• Carry out detailed equipment failure analyses and lead both preventive and unscheduled maintenance activities as needed.
• Move, assemble, install, and dismantle equipment safely and efficiently in support of production and maintenance requirements.
• Collaborate with maintenance leadership and team members to prioritize and schedule maintenance activities based on production needs and equipment availability.
• Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including strict adherence to lockout/tagout requirements and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment history, and parts inventory within appropriate systems.
• Participate in training programs and ongoing skill development to enhance technical knowledge and proficiency in maintenance practices.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas, tools, and equipment to support a safe and efficient workspace.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing equipment reliability, efficiency, and overall performance.
• Read, interpret, and apply information from mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and technical documentation during maintenance and repair tasks.
• Utilize diagnostic and testing equipment such as multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, pressure gauges, and calibration instruments to evaluate equipment condition and performance.
• Set up, operate, adjust, calibrate, maintain, and repair complex manufacturing and production equipment while ensuring optimal performance, safety, and efficiency.
• Respond to emergency maintenance situations and equipment breakdowns, providing timely troubleshooting and repair to support uninterrupted production.

Essential Skills

• 5–7 years of experience in maintenance or a related field, preferably within a highly automated manufacturing environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and automation systems used in industrial equipment.
• Working knowledge of mechanical systems including gears, bearings, shafts, conveyors, drive systems, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems, with the ability to inspect, assemble, disassemble, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild industrial machinery.
• Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including motors, circuits, relays, contactors, sensors, power distribution components, and electrical control panels, with the ability to troubleshoot and repair.
• Working knowledge of automation systems, PLCs, HMIs, industrial robotics, VFDs, and automated production systems, including monitoring performance and supporting control system troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and other technical documentation.
• Strong diagnostic and analytical skills with the ability to interpret fault codes and alarm histories, determine root causes of failures, and implement effective corrective actions.
• Experience performing preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance using diagnostic tools, multimeters, machine fault reports, HMI data, MES reports, and other monitoring systems.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing PLC-controlled systems and Siemens PLCs.
• Mechanical aptitude and strong understanding of mechanical motion, power transmission systems, automated equipment, and machine interactions, with the ability to recognize abnormal equipment conditions.
• Skilled use of electrical and mechanical diagnostic tools including multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, pressure gauges, calibration equipment, and other maintenance testing instruments.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues effectively.
• Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and knowledge of safety regulations and practices applicable to industrial maintenance activities.
• Ability to be trained in mobile and industrial plant equipment.
• Proficiency in English language skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with PLC troubleshooting and PLC control in an industrial environment.
• Experience with Siemens and Siemens PLC systems in manufacturing applications.
• Experience with servo motors, welding, pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Experience working with automated production systems and industrial robotics.
• Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or other maintenance tracking software.
• Ability to support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability and efficiency.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to emergency maintenance situations as needed.
• Ability to stand and walk in a manufacturing environment for up to 12 hours per day.
• Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 60 pounds.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, and reach above shoulder and below waist frequently.
• Ability to work in confined spaces when required.

Work Environment

This role is based in a climate-controlled manufacturing warehouse that houses highly automated solar module production equipment. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with plans to transition to a front-half/back-half shift structure. As the team grows, the first group of technicians will have the option to select day or evening shifts within that structure. The environment involves regular standing, walking, lifting, and working around complex machinery, as well as occasional work in confined spaces. Work is performed using a variety of electrical and mechanical diagnostic tools and equipment in a clean, organized, and safety-focused facility.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Goodyear, AZ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
