POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager, Financial Applications is a hands-on functional applications role responsible for the functional administration, configuration, support, and continuous improvement of enterprise Essbase applications supporting corporate management reporting, financial close, and related Finance processes.

Reporting to the Director, Financial Applications – Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), this role serves as a primary functional and technical subject matter expert for Essbase applications and works closely with Corporate Finance, Accounting, business Finance teams, and Information Technology to ensure financial reporting solutions are reliable, accurate, well-controlled, and responsive to evolving business requirements.

The successful candidate will combine strong knowledge of Essbase with an understanding of financial reporting processes and data. The role requires the ability to work directly with application configurations, metadata, hierarchies, calculations, data loads, integrations, reporting solutions, and business users to troubleshoot issues and implement sustainable solutions.

This individual will play an important role during monthly, quarterly, and year-end close and reporting cycles and will be expected to independently diagnose and resolve complex application and data issues within time-sensitive Finance processes.

In addition to ongoing application responsibilities, this role will serve as a key financial applications resource supporting business transactions and organizational changes. The individual will partner with Finance, Accounting, M&A, IT, and transaction teams to implement reporting changes, support data addition or separation, and maintain reporting continuity throughout the transaction.

Key Responsibilities

Essbase Functional Administration and Support

• Support enterprise Essbase applications used for corporate management reporting, financial close, and related Finance processes.

• Maintain and enhance Essbase application configurations, including dimensions, hierarchies, metadata, member properties, calculations, data load rules, security requirements, reporting structures, and related application components.

• Monitor application and data processes and proactively identify issues that could affect reporting accuracy, completeness, or timeliness.

• Perform application maintenance and configuration changes in accordance with established change management and control procedures.

• Maintain detailed knowledge of application architecture, configurations, data flows, business rules, dependencies, and reporting requirements.

• Maintain application documentation, operating procedures, configuration standards, and support knowledge.

Financial Close and Management Reporting

• Support Essbase applications and reporting processes throughout monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close cycles, serving as a key escalation point.

• Partner with Corporate Finance and Accounting teams to understand reporting requirements and translate those requirements into appropriate application configurations and solutions.

• Investigate differences between source financial data, Essbase results, and downstream reports and identify root causes.

• Evaluate downstream impacts of metadata, hierarchy, mapping, calculation, and data changes before implementation.

Troubleshooting, Problem Resolution and Continuous Improvement

• Independently investigate and resolve complex application, data, calculation, reporting, and integration issues, escalating where necessary.

• Work collaboratively with IT and other technical teams when issues involve environments, infrastructure, source systems, integrations, performance, or other technical components.

• Design, configure, test, document, and implement enhancements to Essbase applications and reporting processes.

• Identify opportunities to simplify application configurations, eliminate technical debt, improve performance, and enhance supportability.

• Support modernization of existing Essbase capabilities and adoption of Oracle EPM Cloud or FreeForm capabilities where appropriate.

Corporate Actions Support

• Support Essbase reporting and application requirements associated with corporate actions, including metadata, hierarchy, mapping, calculation, reporting, data load, and integration changes resulting from business or organizational changes.

• Analyze the impact of organizational changes on Corporate and business reporting and help ensure continuity of financial reporting before, during, and after corporate actions.

• Support testing and validation of add-in and/or carve-out reporting solutions and data outputs.

• Identify and communicate risks, dependencies, data issues, and reporting impacts to business and technical stakeholders, and maintain clear documentation of changes.

Finance and IT Partnership

• Develop strong working relationships with Corporate Finance, Accounting, business Finance teams, IT, and other EPM stakeholders.

• Serve as a knowledgeable application partner who can translate between Finance requirements and technical application concepts.

• Partner with IT teams responsible for environments, infrastructure, integrations, security, and technical platform support.

• Clearly communicate application issues, root causes, proposed solutions, risks, dependencies, and implementation plans to both business and technical audiences.

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience administering, configuring, supporting, and troubleshooting Oracle Essbase applications.

• Working knowledge of Essbase technologies including MaxL, MDX, calculation scripts, data load rules, substitution variables, security, and application administration.

• Experience with SQL and financial data integrations.

• Experience supporting financial reporting, management reporting, financial consolidation, or financial close processes.

• Strong understanding of multidimensional financial data structures and their application to Finance reporting.

• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data and reporting issues and independently identify root causes.

• Strong data validation, reconciliation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to understand relationships and dependencies across source systems, data integrations, EPM applications, and financial reports.

• Ability to translate Finance and Accounting requirements into practical application solutions.

• Understanding of application change management, testing, documentation, controls, and production support practices.

• Strong business partnership and stakeholder-management skills.

• Ability to operate effectively during time-sensitive financial close and reporting periods.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results within established business and transaction timelines.

• Clear written and verbal communication skills.

• Demonstrated ownership, attention to detail, and commitment to resolving issues through completion.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

• 7+ years of experience supporting enterprise financial applications, EPM solutions, financial reporting systems, or related technologies.

• Significant hands-on experience with Oracle Essbase administration, configuration, development, and production support.

• Experience working directly with Finance and Accounting stakeholders in a complex enterprise environment.

• Experience supporting business-critical applications through monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close cycles.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, or data carve-outs.

• Experience with Oracle FreeForm a plus.

• Understanding of financial reporting structures, charts of accounts, legal entities, and management hierarchies.

• Experience working across Finance, Accounting, IT, and transaction teams.

• Familiarity with Oracle Enterprise Performance Management tools.

• Experience with both on-premises and cloud-based Oracle Essbase technologies.

• Experience with Oracle EPM Cloud and Oracle FreeForm.

• Familiarity with other Oracle EPM technologies such as Financial Consolidation and Close (FCCS), Planning, Enterprise Data Management Cloud (EDMCS), Smart View, and FDMEE or related integration technologies.

• Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, organizational restructurings, or financial data carve-outs.

• Experience implementing reporting and application changes associated with legal entity or organizational restructuring.

• Strong understanding of financial reporting structures, charts of accounts, legal entities, management hierarchies, currencies, and financial reporting dimensions.

• Experience with financial data reconciliation and controls in an SEC reporting or similarly controlled financial reporting environment.

• Experience working across Corporate Finance, Accounting, business Finance, IT, and transaction teams.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $125,000.00–$154,700.00.
