Director of Workforce Development

We are partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization seeking a Director of Workforce & Reentry to lead impactful programs supporting justice-impacted individuals across New York City. This leadership role oversees workforce development, reentry services, and community-based programming across correctional and post-release settings, with a strong focus on trauma-informed care, employment access, and long-term stability. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in reentry, workforce systems, and program operations, along with a passion for building equitable pathways for underserved communities.

Location: New York City (Bronx/Manhattan + Rikers Island access required)

Compensation: $110,000 – $140,000 base salary

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations for workforce development and reentry programs across custody and community-based settings

• Oversee intake, assessments, case management, discharge planning, and participant engagement efforts

• Ensure programs meet contractual, operational, and compliance standards across government-funded initiatives

• Direct workforce development initiatives including career coaching, vocational training, credentialing programs, job placement, and retention services

• Build and maintain employer partnerships and employment pipelines for program participants

• Ensure trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and evidence-based practices are integrated throughout programming

• Oversee participant access to wraparound supports including housing, education, benefits, legal services, and mental health resources

• Supervise and develop multidisciplinary teams including program managers, workforce staff, mentors, outreach teams, and clinical personnel

• Monitor program outcomes, reporting, audits, and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement

• Represent the organization with external stakeholders, correctional facility staff, workforce agencies, unions, and community organizations

Ideal Background

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Human Services, or related field

• 7–10+ years of experience in reentry services, workforce development, or human services

• 3–5+ years of leadership or program management experience

• Strong understanding of justice-involved populations and workforce development systems

• Experience overseeing government-funded or highly regulated programs preferred

• Knowledge of trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, CBT, and restorative practices

• Ability to obtain and maintain NYC DOC clearance for Rikers Island access

• Familiarity with NYC systems including MOCJ, DOC, Workforce1, HRA, NYCHA, or related agencies is a plus
