Location: Parks and Recreation Administrative Services - Waterford, MI Compensation: $85,818 - $114,981 Reports to: Leaders the Working Landscapes and Food Systems division and the Adaptive Recreation and Active Adult 55+ programming unit within Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission (OCPRC). Responsibilities Lead the Working Landscapes and Food Systems division and the Adaptive Recreation and Active Adult 55+ programming unit. Provide strategic direction for the Oakland County Farmers Market, Discovery Oaks (Bowers School Farm), and related sites; supervise subordinate supervisors responsible for day-to-day site operations. Directly supervise the Adaptive Recreation and Active Adult Supervisor, overseeing therapeutic recreation, adaptive programming, active adult, and veterans programming across the park system. Advance health, activation, and community connection outcomes aligned with the strategic plan. Utilize current countywide and/or department software to complete assignments. Lead planning and development work, including future Farmers Market relocation and the five-zone working landscape concept. Coordinate with capital, planning, and operations leadership as initiatives advance. Prepare and monitor budgets for assigned sites; manage revenue operations and identify opportunities to improve revenue and reduce operating costs. Supervise the Adaptive Recreation and Active Adult Supervisor and collaborate to set priorities for therapeutic recreation, adaptive programming, Active Adult 55+ programming, and Veterans programming. Monitor program reach, participant outcomes, and budget performance across the combined unit. Maintain effective working relationships with community leaders, public agencies, private organizations, and the public. Presents reports and analyses to internal and external audiences, including the Executive Leadership Team and Parks and Recreation Commission. Essential Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation Administration, Parks and Recreation Management, Agriculture, Food Systems, Public Health, Social Work, Community Development, or a closely related field. Five (5) years of full-time work experience in recreation administration, food systems management, farm operations, or related field, including at least two (2) years of supervisory experience. Valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license. Note: Master’s degree in one of the described fields may substitute for one (1) year of experience. Additional Qualifications (Desirable) Ability to estimate work hours, tools, and materials for grounds and/or facilities maintenance projects. Ability to work under pressure during emergencies; knowledge of groundskeeping tools and equipment. Knowledge of care of lawns, flowers, trees, and shrubs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Writing and verbal communication skills; ability to train, direct, and evaluate staff. Ability to work under hazardous and difficult conditions; knowledge of ice and snow removal and pavement maintenance techniques using powered equipment. General knowledge of construction and maintenance practices; physical capability for outdoor manual duties in extreme temperatures. Basic First Aid knowledge; ability to maintain records and prepare reports. Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail, and Internet software. Supervision Exercised Directs staff through subordinate supervisors; plans, directs, staffs, and appraises performance. Participates in hiring, discipline, discharge decisions, and pay promotions. Essential Mental & Physical Requirements Ability to communicate clearly, operate a motor vehicle, and work in typical office and outdoor environments with exposure to weather elements. Travel to other locations may be required. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office environment and outdoors; weather may vary. Some travel may be required.
