You will report directly to Dan Brandolino, Executive Vice President and Partner. Dan brings more than 30 years of public-sector, education, energy, and design-build leadership. He founded and grew Midwest Mechanical’s public-sector business to more than $100 million before its sale to Bain Capital. Earlier, as Sales Director in Exelon’s energy-services business, he helped lead growth from startup to approximately $85 million. His experience also includes leadership roles with Trane and Chevron Energy Solutions.

You will also work closely with Cory Wasniewski, President and Partner, who brings more than 15 years with Roberts and approximately a decade of prior aerospace engineering and research-and-development leadership. Cory holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and is an inventor or co-inventor on multiple U.S. patents, including a prefabricated outdoor thermal duct system. His background combines product development, controls, mechanical systems, and field constructability, supported by Tridium Niagara AX and OSHA 30/10 credentials.

Together, Dan and Cory bring business-development experience, engineering depth, and direct ownership accountability. You will have access to both leaders as you grow the team and turn new opportunities into well-executed projects.

Role Description The Engineering Team Leader is a hybrid role based in the Greater Chicago Area.

·      Build, coach, and organize a team spanning project development, engineering coordination, project management, and installation; align internal staff, outside engineers, trade partners, and vendors.

·      Lead opportunities from early assessment through scope development, estimating, design, procurement, construction, startup, closeout, and the transition to warranty and service.

·      Support sales and client meetings, develop practical solutions, and contribute to proposals and presentations that connect technical choices with owner priorities and budgets.

·      Guide schematic and conceptual design, calculations, equipment selections, sketches, and energy analysis; ensure designs are coordinated, constructible, compliant, and aligned with project commitments.

·      Take responsibility for delivery performance: manpower and engineering resources, purchasing, schedules, safety, quality, change management, job costs, margins, and client communication.

·      Create disciplined handoffs, development standards, reporting, and performance measures. Keep leadership informed about the pipeline, project readiness, capacity, risks, and actions needed to support growth.

You are a Mechanical Engineer with proven experience designing HVAC systems for schools and commercial buildings. You are motivated to lead people, grow a team, and deliver outstanding projects. You can earn the confidence of clients, engineers, estimators, and field teams—and understand how their decisions affect both the project and the business.

·      A builder’s mindset: initiative, urgency, ownership of results, and the ability to recruit, develop, and hold a growing team accountable.

·      A proven record of HVAC design for schools and commercial buildings, including system selection, heating and cooling load calculations, ventilation, hydronic piping, ductwork, equipment selection, and controls integration.

·      Commercial discipline: an ability to evaluate opportunities, protect margin, manage risk, and build repeat client relationships.

·      A Mechanical Engineering degree is required; Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is preferred. Bring practical design-build judgment about codes, constructability, budgets, procurement, and installation, along with clear communication and sound judgment.
