Childcare & Recreation Specialist

Through 70+ programs, we support over 35,000 adults and children each year. Position Recreation Specialist Pugsley Family Shelter is an emergency family shelter located in the Bronx for families experiencing homelessness. Location Bronx, NY 10462 Minimum Qualifications Associate’s Degree or 60 college credits in a Human Services field or High School Diploma or GED with 1 year of relevant shelter experience. Demonstrated ability in verbal and written communication, including basic computer skills. Ability to communicate professionally (oral and written) with Spanish‑speaking clients required. Recreation Specialist Principal Responsibilities Plan, coordinate, publicize, implement and facilitate support groups, recreational activities, special events and holiday programs. Update and post printed materials and encourage client participation. Assist in the development and implementation of new programs aimed at enhancing client’s motivation through socialization and the development of leisure time skills. Coordinate programs with case managers to facilitate successful In‑Reach sessions. Develop contacts with various sources for off‑site activities. Assist in preparing and submitting written and statistical reports. Provide aftercare to assigned clients who have been placed/discharged from the facility.
