Park Maintenance Technician

Hiring salary: $36,130–$43,347 Job Overview Gloucester County is currently accepting applications for a Park Maintenance Technician position. This role is essential to maintaining the integrity and appearance of our parks, recreational facilities, athletic fields, and other landscaped areas, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for the community. Reports to Park Maintenance Supervisor. Responsibilities Perform a variety of landscaping and grounds maintenance duties, including mowing, aerating, seeding, applying herbicides and pesticides, fertilizing, planting, and watering. Maintain athletic fields, fences, playgrounds, restrooms, portable toilets, picnic shelters, and other park facilities. Safely operate chain saws, vehicles, trailers, tractors, infield groomers, and common hand tools for tree removal and other tasks. Open parks and collect trash in athletic fields, landscaped areas, parking lots, and public boat landings. Inspect and maintain playground equipment; repair picnic tables, benches, fences, and playgrounds. Assist in the breakdown of stages, tables, chairs, supplies, and equipment for special events and tournaments. Assist in designing landscaping plans, selecting appropriate plants and trees. Maintain Safety Data Sheets for each park. Perform preventive maintenance and routine repair on tools and equipment. Guide, direct, and monitor the work of volunteers or court‑appointed individuals or other employees assisting with grounds upkeep. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Three (3) to four (4) years of skilled landscaping and maintenance experience. Special Requirements Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets Gloucester County Driving Standards. Pass a post‑offer, pre‑employment physical examination; employees may be subject to subsequent physical examinations. Possession of a Commercial Pesticide Applicator License—Category 3, or obtain within 12 months of employment; related Certified Fertilizer Applicator license, or obtain within 12 months of employment. Possession of, or ability to complete within 60 days, a Red Cross‑approved course in First Aid, AED, and CPR; certification must be maintained during employment.
