POSITION OVERVIEW
Simile Construction is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to serve as the company’s senior financial and accounting leader and a key member of the executive leadership team.
This position is responsible for leading all accounting operations while providing the financial leadership necessary to support the company’s continued growth. The Director of Finance combines the responsibilities of an experienced Construction Controller with strategic financial planning, business analysis, and executive partnership.
The Director of Finance works closely with the President, Director of Operations, Director of Preconstruction & Estimating, Project Managers, and executive leadership to ensure the company maintains accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, disciplined cash management, and reliable financial information that supports sound business decisions.
As Simile Construction continues to grow, this individual will play an important role in strengthening the company’s financial systems, improving reporting, enhancing forecasting, and building scalable processes that support long-term success.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting Leadership
Provide leadership and oversight of all accounting operations, including:
- Monthly financial statement preparation
- Month-end and year-end close
- General ledger management
- Accounts payable
- Accounts receivable
- Payroll oversight
- Fixed assets
- Tax coordination
- Audit coordination
- Internal financial controls
- Accounting policy development
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while creating scalable financial systems and procedures.
Construction Financial Management
Lead all construction-specific financial management activities, including:
- Monthly Work in Progress (WIP) preparation
- Revenue recognition
- Percentage-of-completion accounting
- Job cost accounting
- Cost-to-complete forecasting
- Over/under billing analysis
- Cash flow forecasting
- Retainage management
Lead monthly financial review meetings with the Director of Operations and Project Managers.
Partner with Operations to improve project financial performance, identify project risks early, and improve forecasting accuracy.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare and present timely financial information, including:
- Balance Sheet
- Income Statement
- Cash Flow Statement
- WIP Reports
- Executive KPI Dashboards
- Backlog Reporting
- Department Performance Reporting
- Forecasting Models
Provide executive leadership with meaningful financial analysis that supports informed business decisions.
Financial Planning & Business Strategy
Develop and maintain:
- Annual operating budgets
- Rolling financial forecasts
- Company overhead analysis
- Department financial analysis
- Breakeven analysis
- Capacity planning models
- Cash flow projections
Evaluate the long-term financial implications of strategic business decisions and provide recommendations that improve profitability and financial performance.
Banking, Bonding & Risk Management
Maintain and strengthen relationships with:
- Banking institutions
- Surety partners
- Insurance broker
- Outside CPA
Partner with ownership regarding:
- Bonding strategy
- Banking relationships
- Working capital management
- Equipment financing
- Capital expenditures
- Insurance renewals
- Financial risk management
Review major contracts from a financial perspective, including payment terms, retainage, billing schedules, cash flow implications, and financial risk.
Organizational Development & Continuous Improvement
Serve as a strategic business partner who continuously evaluates the health and scalability of the organization beyond traditional accounting responsibilities.
Responsibilities include:
- Continuously evaluate financial systems, accounting processes, and reporting procedures to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
- Develop meaningful KPI dashboards and executive reporting that improve visibility into company performance.
- Partner with executive leadership to improve budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial decision-making.
- Evaluate business systems and workflows to identify opportunities for automation and operational improvement.
- Support strategic initiatives including ERP implementation, process improvements, and financial reporting enhancements.
- Recommend improvements that strengthen profitability, operational efficiency, and long-term financial performance.
- Foster a culture of accountability by providing timely, accurate financial information that supports informed decision-making throughout the organization.
Executive Leadership
Serve as a trusted advisor to the President and executive leadership team.

- Organizational Planning

Provide objective financial analysis while respectfully challenging assumptions, identifying business risks, and supporting sound executive decision-making.
Act as a trusted advisor to ownership by providing sound financial insight, objective analysis, and practical recommendations that support the company’s continued growth.
Strategic Initiatives
Lead or participate in major company initiatives, including:
- ERP implementation
- Accounting software evaluation
- Financial reporting improvements
- Dashboard implementation
- Process documentation
- Department capacity planning
- Banking transitions
- Bonding transitions
- Equipment evaluations
- Support financial due diligence for significant business initiatives as needed
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience.
- Minimum of 5 years within commercial construction.
- Extensive experience with:
- Construction accounting
- WIP reporting
- Job costing
- Revenue recognition
- Cash flow forecasting
- Budgeting
- Banking
- Bonding
- Insurance
- Experience leading accounting teams and mentoring staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- CPA, CMA, or CCIFP designation.
- Experience with commercial general contractors between $30 million and $100 million in annual revenue.
- Experience implementing ERP systems.
- Experience supporting organizational growth and executive leadership.
- Strong understanding of commercial construction operations.

SUCCESS IN THE FIRST 12 MONTHS
The successful Director of Finance will:
- Successfully transition financial responsibilities from the retiring CFO.
- Build trusted relationships with ownership, Operations, and executive leadership.
- Maintain accurate and timely monthly financial reporting.
- Continue effective WIP preparation and monthly project financial reviews.
- Improve budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Strengthen banking, bonding, and insurance relationships.
- Improve visibility into company overhead, capacity, profitability, and cash flow.
· Develop executive KPI dashboards that provide greater visibility into company performance, profitability, cash flow, and forecasting.
- Identify and implement meaningful financial and operational improvements that position Simile for long-term growth.
