The Director of Communication is a forward-thinking servant within the church and school. This person will lead and oversee the unified communication strategy for both our LCMS church and school ministry. They will work in conjunction with other members of the staff and lay leadership to further our mission: “Crown of Life is engaging generations to live in God’s truth and to live out His grace.” Working closely with pastoral staff, ministry leaders, and lay teams, the Director of Communications ensures that all messaging—whether digital, print, or verbal—is Christ-centered, welcoming, and aligned with the theological and cultural identity of Crown of Life. This is a collaborative, ministry-minded position reporting to the Church Administrator. COMMUNICATION CALENDAR DEVELOPMENT AND ALIGNMENT Develop and manage an integrated, year-round communication calendar that reflects the rhythms of both church and school life. SOCIAL MEDIA AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT Develop and implement a dynamic social media strategy to connect with church members, school families, and the surrounding community. Create or curate original content (images, video, stories, devotionals, etc.) that reflects the heart of our Gospel mission and LCMS identity. Monitor analytics and audience engagement to refine messaging and grow reach across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and others. Train and empower staff and volunteers to contribute meaningfully to digital outreach efforts. Maintain, update, and optimize both the church and school websites to ensure they are current, inviting to newcomers, and accessible on all devices. Collaborate with pastoral and ministry teams to ensure theological accuracy and clarity in public-facing communications. Use tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, CapCut, (or other design platforms as applicable) to create graphics and visual assets that support ministry goals. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Ensure all communication honors and upholds the doctrinal commitments of the LCMS. Participate in strategic planning and goal setting with ministry leaders. Assist in preparing and managing the Communication budget. Attend and actively participate in major church-wide events and worship services. Required Qualifications Committed to a personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Attending and serving member at a Christian Church, preferably within the LCMS. Experience in content creation, marketing, or communications. Working knowledge of design and content tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, video editing platforms, CMS platforms, and email marketing tools. Believe in a collaborative team approach to ministry, communicating effectively as a team member. Ability to start new programs at the discretion of COL senior leadership. Skilled at performing and completing tasks in a group or independently. Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage workload and time efficiently. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Digital Media, or a related field. 3+ years of professional experience in a communications, digital marketing, or media role—preferably within a church, school, nonprofit, or ministry context. Able to analyze data and insights to inform decisions and report outcomes. Comfortable supporting leadership teams and representing the voice of the church and school with professionalism and theological alignment.
