Direct Support Professional

Direct Support Professional (Full-Time/Part-time) Position: Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Community Engagement & Day Support Services Organization: The Arc of Augusta Position Summary: The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in both structured day-support programs and community-based engagement activities. This position ensures participants develop independent living skills, engage meaningfully in their communities, and achieve personal goals in a supportive, person-centered environment. Responsibilities: Implement individualized support plans (ISPs) and daily activity schedules. Document daily progress notes and maintain accurate records per DBHDS and Medicaid standards. Accompany individuals on community outings and volunteer opportunities. Teach and reinforce appropriate social skills and safety awareness. Support individuals in accessing local events, businesses, parks, and civic activities. Help foster relationships with community members and promote inclusion. Community Engagement: Communicate regularly with supervisors, families, and interdisciplinary team members. Follow all safety protocols, emergency procedures, and behavioral support plans. Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Participate in regular staff meetings, ongoing training, and program development. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required. At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with IDD preferred. Valid Virginia driver’s license with good driving record; willing to transport participants in agency vehicle. Must pass a criminal background check and TB screening. Skills & Attributions: Compassionate, patient, and committed to person-centered care. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to adapt to changing needs and behaviors. Dependable, organized, and proactive. Comfortable with light lifting and physically assisting participants. Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM Occasional weekends or evening events based on community activities. Competitive hourly wage based on experience. Paid training and professional development.
