Job Summary Working closely with the Club Manager, the Assistant Club Manager in Training (AMIT) provides leadership and direction within the club and drives club performance, particularly for the departments they directly manage. The AMIT role prepares individuals to assume one of three Assistant Club Manager positions: Merchandising, Perishables, or Member Experience. The trainee will receive development aligned to their designated track and will ultimately oversee the corresponding departments. Ensures consistent execution of policies and procedures, a positive member service experience, Grand Opening Look Daily (GOLD) standard club conditions, and provides overall leadership within the club. A key function of the AMIT role is talent development, leadership, and delivering results consistently. The AMIT leads audit compliance efforts, drives collaboration with Business Partners (BPs), and oversees onboarding, certification, and training to ensure food safety and operational excellence. This role may serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) for the club as needed, taking full responsibility for club operations, team leadership, and Member engagement during assigned shifts. A valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification is required and must be maintained. Forklift certification may be required yearly. In Florida, a qualifier certification for retail propane oversight is required. BJ’s covers applicable costs and training. Resolve concerns: Support team in resolving Member issues and delivering satisfaction. Operational Standards Maintain Club Standards: Deliver GOLD Standards consistently. Raising the Bar: Ensure the club is on or above plan for core KPIs relevant to the role. Financial and Operational Performance Cost Discipline: Meet or exceed labor and supply plans. Drive Performance and Profitability: Use reporting to identify trends and opportunities. Understand the business: Acquire knowledge of key metrics and reporting for total club and department performance. Major Tasks, Responsibilities, And Key Accountabilities Provide Strategic Department Leadership: Oversee daily operations across assigned departments (Merchandising, Perishables, or Member Experience) with focus on business acumen, accountability, team engagement, and club standards execution. Recruit, Hire, Onboard: Manage the full hiring process for assigned departments, including interviewing and staffing decisions, onboarding, and certification. Oversee Labor Planning and Scheduling: Create and manage labor schedules aligned with trends and budgets. Drive Sales, Inventory Control, and Shrink Management: Ensure in-stock conditions, minimize shrink, and drive sales through inventory management. Champion Member Experience Standards: Model and enforce GAA, GOLD, and LAST service standards. Execute Operational Readiness: Maintain clean, stocked, safe, and ready conditions at opening each day. Lead Department Talent Management: Conduct performance reviews, mentor future leaders, and manage promotions and transfers. Utilize Tools and Reporting: Use club tools to identify opportunities and drive results. Ensure Compliance and Safety: Enforce policies including food safety, OSHA, and audits; resolve issues with minimal escalation. Support Special Initiatives and Transitions: Plan merchandising transitions and special projects in coordination with leadership. Maintain Equipment and Facilities: Monitor and escalate equipment issues promptly. Perform Cross-Functional Support: Provide leadership support across departments as needed. Utilize BJ’s MY WORK System: Execute tasks and initiatives via internal systems. Operate Equipment Safely: If assigned, operate forklifts per safety protocols. Maintain regular attendance: Demonstrate consistent presence to support leadership coverage. Qualifications 4+ years of experience as a retail store, supermarket, or warehouse operations manager. Strong drive for results, work ethic, honesty, and commitment to member service. Excellent communication skills; able to lead and motivate a large team. Understanding of shrink controls, staff development, merchandising, customer service, problem solving, and conflict resolution. Demonstrated leadership with cross-functional teams and coaching. Knowledge of store operations, membership, front-line, and omni procedures. High school diploma or college degree preferred; company training completion preferred. Basic computer knowledge (MS Word, MS Excel, Email). ServSafe certification required; forklift operator required. Open shift availability; must be at least 18 years old. Job Conditions Frequent movement on hard surfaces; occasional bending, pulling, and reaching. Regular lifting up to 30 pounds; heavier lifting with assistance as needed. Exposure to temperature extremes and loud noises in perishable areas. Potential exposure to cleaning agents.
