Assistant Controller

Rello Search Partners is recruiting for an Assistant Controller in Tampa, FL. Our private equity backed client is in high growth mode operating in multiple states in the commercial real estate and property management industry. They are looking for a strong accounting professional to grow and expand the team. The Assistant Controller reports to the VP of Property Accounting and oversees the financial operations and reporting for a portfolio of multi-family commercial real estate properties and communities nationwide. Only local candidates residing within a commutable distance to the Tampa Bay area will be considered for the position. Hybrid work schedule of 1 day onsite and 4 days remote. This is NOT a fully remote opportunity. Responsibilities Manage and supervise the property accounting team to include offshore resources in the preparation of weekly, monthly and annual financial statements across a portfolio of multi-family commercial real estate properties Partner with operations and senior management to develop annual operating budgets and rolling forecasts Research budget-to-actual variances and provide explanations using detailed operational and financial metrics Prepare and provide financial reporting and supporting documentation to investors, capital partners and external auditors Provide supporting documentation for internal controls, external financial audits, and tax preparations Monitor accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and cash flows to optimize property financial performance Assist in mentoring and directing staff, transactional and offshore teams to ensure departmental goals and GAAP standards are consistently met Review and approve journal entries during month and year-end processes Track and analyze key financial metrics and operational procedures to foster process improvements Drive operational efficiencies and cost savings Assist with external audits and SOX compliance Provide ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis as needed for senior management Other duties and responsibilities as needed to support the department Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university; MBA or CPA a plus 7+ years of corporate accounting or public accounting audit experience REIT, SEC or private equity experience a plus Strong ERP systems and process/continuous improvement experience, Yardi experience highly desired Proficient in MS Office and strong Excel (pivot tables and vlookups) #J-18808-Ljbffr Rello Search Partners
