Patient Reg Associate/Switchboard (PRN)

Job Summary The Registration/Switchboard Associate is responsible for interviewing and gathering complete and accurate data to complete the admission/registration process accurately and efficiently in a courteous and professional manner. The associate obtains appropriate signatures, notifies patients or guests of hospital regulations, policies and services, and maintains patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality. The role also involves operating a multi‑line, multi‑extension switchboard, performing pages on the intercom and radio systems, and monitoring all in‑house alarms. Accountabilities Interview patients or their representatives to obtain personal information or verify existing data, including emergency numbers, insurance, and employment information. Obtain and witness signatures on conditions of admission and initiate the advance directive process. Maintain privacy and confidentiality of all patients by actions and words. Operate a multi‑line, multi‑extension switchboard and process all incoming and outgoing communications in a timely and efficient manner. Operate hospital paging and radio systems; take messages, answer questions, and document written records when appropriate. Monitor hospital alarms and react appropriately when activated according to hospital policy. Maintain message and key log. Cross‑train within the department to effectively handle the functions of pre‑admissions, outpatients, outpatient care physicians, emergency registration, and switchboard functions. Demonstrate good communication and organizational skills with patients, coworkers, physicians, ancillary personnel, and the community. Enter the premises with an immediate smile, eye contact, proper body language, and an appropriate greeting. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Qualifications The position is open to candidates 18 years or older with a high school diploma (or equivalent) or currently enrolled in high school. Applicants must have excellent interpersonal, analytical, and verbal communication skills, be able to follow oral and written instructions, work independently, and possess corrected vision, hearing, legible writing, and the physical ability to stand, bend, stoop, push, pull, lift, and reach on a frequent or repetitive basis.
