Temporary Assistant Cook – Reidsville, NC The Assistant Cook will support the Food Service Director in daily planning and preparation of meals for approximately 2,000 annual visitors of the Betsy‑Jeff Penn 4‑H Educational Center. The role helps ensure kitchen operations remain compliant with state and local health requirements. Primary Responsibilities Possess basic food knowledge and cooking skills Wash, chop, peel, cut, or mix ingredients for salad/fruit bar Prepare the assigned meal for the day while being aware of allergens and cross‑contamination Have availability to work open and/or close kitchen shift as needed Clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, work areas, and equipment Maintain dining room cleanliness after meals, taking out trash as needed Receive deliveries using FIFO method to rotate stock in the cooler, freezer, and dry storage; help maintain inventory levels for ordering Other duties as deemed necessary by the Food Service Director Qualifications & Requirements At least one year of kitchen experience Knowledge of allergens and food preparation/safety guidelines ServSafe Manager certification (or ability to obtain within three months of start date) Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted and stand/walk for extended periods Excellent written and verbal communication skills Capability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment Work Schedule Varies depending on facility needs.
