Overview

We are seeking a skilled Conventional Machinist to join a well-established industrial services company specializing in large-scale heat/cool systems, including boilers, chillers, and rotating equipment. This role focuses heavily on manual machining within a machine shop environment supporting repair work across industries such as oil & gas, refineries, and paper mills.

This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with strong potential for long-term growth within a collaborative, team-oriented culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain manual machining equipment (lathes, mills, grinders) to repair and fabricate industrial components
• Perform precision machining on parts used in boilers, chillers, valves, and other industrial systems
• Support repair work for refineries, paper mills, and oil & gas clients
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
• Conduct equipment setup, measurement, and quality checks to ensure accuracy and compliance
• Assist with maintenance, troubleshooting, and safety procedures for older/manual equipment
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to production planning and shop efficiency
• Work independently while collaborating with a flat-structured team environment

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in manual machining (conventional machinist / inside machinist / journeyman / tool & die)
• Strong experience with manual lathes, mills, and shop equipment
• Background working in industrial environments such as machine shops, refineries, shipyards, or heavy manufacturing
• Ability to read blueprints and perform precision measurements
• Comfortable working with older equipment and hands-on repair work
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently without micromanagement

• Manufacturing companies such as Ball Metal or Anheuser-Busch
• Electric motor or mechanical repair shops

• Collaborative, team-oriented culture with minimal micromanagement
• Flat structure with direct access to leadership (reporting to Shop Supervisor)
• Two machine shops supporting a team of 20+ technicians and machinists
• Emphasis on training and long-term development (6–8 month ramp period)

Schedule

• Typical hours: 6:00 AM – 4:00/5:00 PM
• 50–60 hours per week (consistent overtime available)
