Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of Clinical Practice - UW Pediatric Cardiology, Heart Failure/Transplant

The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Cardiology at the University of Washington invites applications for a clinical practice faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Clinical Practice. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a twelve-month full-time basis for a term of 3 years beginning July 1, 2027.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Manage acute decompensated heart failure, cardiogenic shock, chronic cardiomyopathy, mechanical circulatory support, and heart transplant care including basic transplant immunology in the transplant setting.
• Read and interpret transthoracic echocardiography
• Management of temporary and durable Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs) and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).
• Management of outpatients including pediatric cardiomyopathies, chronic heart failure, long term follow-up of heart transplant recipients, and to perform heart transplant evaluation.
• Work cohesively with a diverse team including cardiothoracic surgeons, critical care physicians, nurse coordinators, transplant social workers, nutritionists, other cardiology specialists, and pharmacists.
• Participates in task forces and committees as requested by the applicable service line or Seattle Children's Leadership.

Clinical Care:

• Participates in outpatient, inpatient cardiology and consultation. Provides excellent clinical care and in the process, supports safe, efficient and high-quality services.
• Ensures appropriate coordination and integration with other services in the care of their patients.
• Engages with consultants and other providers in a multi-disciplinary model of care.
• Read and interpret transthoracic echocardiograms as part of the management of ventricular assist device patients and post-transplant surveillance for rejection.
• Provide excellent communication for high-stakes counseling, including discussing transplant evaluation and selection, VAD indications, palliative care transition, and end-of-life decisions.

Planning:

• Works with administrative and clinical leaders to support quality and performance improvement to ensure that program goals are attained.
• Participates in task forces and committees, as applicable to Service line or Seattle Children's leadership.

Regulatory:

• Supports timely review of any patient safety events.
• Responds in a timely manner to physician or patient related feedback or complaints.
• Supports legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Participates regularly in physician variability documentation and regulatory conferences to maintain lab accreditation.
• Supports and participates in M&M program and identifies opportunities for improvement
• Provides input to continuing education activities designed to maintain and enhance competencies
• Maintains professionalism with regards to billing, documentation, conference attendance and collaboration with peers, trainees, staff, patients and families.

Research:

• Identifies opportunities and actively participate in scientific investigations and collaborations.
• Maintains academic productivity commensurate for rank and for the Clinician-Scholar.

Education:

• Supports cardiac clinical educational programs for medical students, residents, fellows, APPs, coordinators, and nursing.
• Provides advanced clinical and research training for categorical and 4th year fellows.
• Participates and contributes to quality improvement projects and/or curriculum development.

Candidates will be considered across a range of interests in pediatric heart failure and transplantation.

The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professor range: $22,589 - $27,336 per month ($271,068 - $328,032 annually), Associate Professor range: $26,661 - $31,974 per month ($319,932 - $383,688 annually), Professor range: $32,858 - $41,175 per month ($394,296 - $494,100 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children's University Medical Group practice plan.

Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative duty supplement (ADS).

Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:

• MD, DO (or foreign equivilent)
• Completion of a 4th year training in heart failure and transplant is required.
• Board certified or eligible (or foreign equivalent) in Pediatric Cardiology
• Must be currently licensed as a physician or eligible for licensure as a physician in Washington state.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
