Survey Project Manager

Position Overview

A well-established land surveying and geomatics firm is seeking an experienced Survey Project Manager to oversee land surveying projects from planning through completion. This role is responsible for managing project schedules, budgets, field operations, office production, quality control, and client communication while ensuring projects are completed accurately, safely, and on schedule.

The ideal candidate has a strong technical background in land surveying, proven leadership experience, and the ability to coordinate field and office teams across multiple projects.

Key ResponsibilitiesProject Management

• Manage land surveying projects from initiation through final deliverables.

• Develop project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.

• Coordinate field crews, office staff, and project stakeholders.

• Monitor project progress and ensure milestones are achieved on time and within budget.

• Maintain strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.

Survey Operations

• Direct and oversee boundary, topographic, construction, and other land surveying projects.

• Review field data for completeness and accuracy.

• Ensure survey deliverables comply with project requirements, industry standards, and applicable regulations.

• Review maps, plats, reports, and survey documentation prior to client delivery.

Technical Leadership

• Provide guidance to survey technicians and field personnel.

• Resolve technical and operational issues during project execution.

• Support quality assurance and quality control initiatives.

• Promote continuous process improvements and operational efficiency.

Client & Team Coordination

• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders.

• Participate in project meetings and coordinate project requirements.

• Mentor junior staff and support professional development.

• Foster a collaborative and safety-focused work environment.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure compliance with company policies, surveying standards, and regulatory requirements.

• Promote safe work practices for field personnel.

• Maintain project documentation and quality records.

Required Qualifications

• Several years of experience in land surveying with prior project management or supervisory responsibilities.

• Strong experience managing boundary, topographic, and construction surveying projects.

• Proficiency with modern surveying equipment, including GPS, robotic total stations, and data collectors.

• Experience using CAD and/or GIS software.

• Strong understanding of land surveying principles, standards, and applicable regulations.

• Excellent project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and organizational skills.

• Strong leadership, communication, and client management abilities.

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Land Surveyor (PLS/LS) license or the ability to obtain licensure.

• Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, or a related technical field.

• Experience managing public infrastructure, transportation, commercial, or private development projects.
