Operating Room OR Equipment Technician

Overview In this position, you will work with a team of doctors, nurses, and technicians to assist with troubleshooting equipment, sterilization, inventory management, and other requests that may arise during a case. The role is focused on ensuring the safe functioning of operating room equipment and managing the perioperative equipment program for the OR. Shift Details Employment Type: Full‑time Hours per Week: 40 Shift: Day (4‑10s | 40 hrs) On‑call: Weekend and holiday rotations required. Night shift differential of 18% and a flat rate of $1 per hour for weekend shifts may apply. Responsibilities Perform timely troubleshooting and minor repairs, and facilitate major repairs with designated vendors for all equipment within the department. Serve as the first‑line resource to physicians and staff for equipment troubleshooting across all specialties (general, ortho, ENT, neuro, peds, robotics, etc.). Participate in the operation of cell saver, laser, image‑guided equipment, video, and microscope (balancing and lens exchange), and maintain in‑depth knowledge through certifications. Maintain appropriate documentation and databases for equipment repairs, and communicate status to management, physicians, and staff on a weekly basis. Perform safety checks on all equipment prior to patient use and ensure proper electrical load distribution during multi‑piece equipment use. Identify continuing education needs related to new equipment or procedures, and assist the nursing educator in meeting these needs. Secure all surgical equipment to prevent loss, and oversee ongoing safety and security measures. Facilitate efficient OR room turnover by anticipating equipment needs. Provide facility responsibility only; internal customers include other staff, physicians, patients, visitors, vendors, other facilities, and external medical facilities. Qualifications High school diploma/GED or equivalent; working knowledge of perioperative or procedural services. Typically 1 year of perioperative, biomedical, or comparable experience, including knowledge of related equipment and supplies. Strong organizational, communication, human relations, and time‑management skills. Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and work closely with department managers and all levels of staff. Required: equipment specific certifications for proper operation of various pieces of equipment. Preferred: additional related education and/or experience.
