EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, GREENVILLE FREE MEDICAL CLINIC
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Greenville Free Medical Clinic (GFMC), providing visionary, strategic, operational, and financial leadership to advance the Clinic's mission of delivering high-quality, compassionate healthcare to underserved individuals in the Greenville community. In close partnership with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, medical providers, and community partners, the Executive Director ensures organizational excellence, long-term sustainability, and meaningful community impact.
The Executive Director will balance strategic leadership with hands-on engagement, strengthening GFMC's role as a trusted healthcare safety-net provider while positioning the organization for growth, innovation, and continued relevance in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.

AREAS OF RESONSIBILITY
Strategic Leadership
- Partner with the Board of Directors to develop, implement, and regularly evaluate GFMC's strategic vision, goals, and long-range plans in alignment with the organization's mission and values.
- Provide clear, consistent leadership that translates strategic priorities into actionable objectives across programs, operations, and fundraising efforts.
- Proactively assess internal and external risks, including regulatory, financial, and operational challenges, and implement strategies to ensure long-term organizational sustainability.
- Serve as a thoughtful advisor to the Board, supporting effective governance practices, board development, and committee engagement.
Clinical Operations & Oversight
- Provide overall leadership and oversight of GFMC's clinical and administrative operations, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care.
- Lead all accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial monitoring processes, ensuring sound stewardship, transparency, and strong internal controls.
- Work closely with the Board and finance partners to maintain fiscal accountability and identify opportunities to strengthen financial resilience through revenue diversification and cost-effective operations.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with medical leadership, staff, and volunteers to evaluate existing programs and identify opportunities to enhance services, expand access to care, and improve patient outcomes.
Fund Development & Stewardship
- Provide strategic leadership across all revenue, financial, and sustainability functions to ensure the long-term health and growth of Greenville Free Medical Clinic.
- Partner with the Board and staff to design and execute diversified fundraising strategies, including individual giving, grants, corporate partnerships, healthcare systems, and public-sector funding.
- Serve as a primary relationship-builder with donors, funders, and funding partners, effectively communicating GFMC's mission and impact to inspire philanthropic investment.
- Lead grant strategy and grant writing efforts, ensuring strong alignment between funding opportunities and organizational priorities.
Community Engagement & Visibility
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for Greenville Free Medical Clinic, enhancing organizational visibility, credibility, and community trust.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with hospitals, healthcare providers, educational institutions, nonprofits, government agencies, and civic leaders.
- Represent GFMC in community forums, coalitions, and advocacy efforts related to access to care, health equity, and services for underserved populations.
- Stay attuned to evolving community health needs, healthcare trends, and policy developments that impact GFMC's mission, strategy, and patients.
Team Culture & Performance
- Recruit, develop, and retain a talented, mission-driven staff, developing a collaborative and respectful workplace culture.
- Support professional growth and performance development through coaching, mentorship, and ongoing learning opportunities.
- Ensure strong internal communication, alignment, and teamwork across clinical, administrative, and volunteer functions.
QUALIFICATONS
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in nonprofit management, healthcare administration, public health, or a related field preferred.
- 8+ years working in nonprofit organizations, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role with demonstrated responsibility for organizational management and strategy.
- Experience in healthcare, human services, or community-based organizations strongly preferred.
- Proven success in fundraising, including individual giving, grants, special events, and donor relationship management.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience overseeing budgets, financial planning, and organizational sustainability.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including public speaking and stakeholder engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships with boards, staff, volunteers, funders, and community collaborators.
- Visionary, collaborative leader with strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and change-management skills.
