Position Title: Library Media Specialist

Reports to: Director of Curriculum & Instruction

Employment Status: Full-Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Hours Per Day: 8

Essential Functions

Middle School and Intermediate Media Specialists ensure that students and staff have access to information, ideas and technology in their school building and at home. Media Specialists will provide access through proper maintenance and circulation of library resources, district technology, and 3rd party applications and information resources. Media Specialists provide information literacy through lessons and activities and professional development to students, parents, staff and community members.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in the field of library science, communication or technology, Masters degree preferred
• Specialized training in library/media education preferred
• An equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Certifications

• Google Certified Educator Level 1 & 2 preferred

Duties and Responsibilities

• Adapts to the individual social emotional and academic needs of the students
• Respects and disciplines students through restorative, responsive, preventative, proactive, dignified classroom management techniques that reflect structure, equity, and consistency
• Coordinates and plans for class work and homework assignments for students, as necessary. Maintains records of complete student assignments
• Keeps accurate records and documents
• Assists students in transitioning to their regular instructional program
• Discusses behavior modifications that would alter the students behaviors in a positive manner (PBIS)
• Uses effective classroom management techniques
• Assists students with assigned class work
• Reports students' daily attendance to the appropriate secretary
• Participates in the professional development related to job responsibilities as well as to district initiatives, as requested
• Receives and maintains CPI Training/certification for non-violent crisis intervention
• Performs work as required or assigned by the building principal or designee
• Becomes familiar with District initiatives including, but not limited to the District's Strategic Plan, the Positive Behavior Intervention System rubric (PBIS), UDL, Equity and Diversity, etc.
• Performs other related additional duties and assignments as requested.

• Board of Education policies and procedures, applicable sections
• Administrative procedures, applicable sections
• Knowledge of local computer labs and cloud computing systems
• Ability to utilize software for multimedia literacy
• Library materials and equipment maintenance
• Knowledge of a wide range of developmentally appropriate books and other library materials
• Library material processing procedures
• Ability to support teachers' literacy and technology needs in classrooms
• Collection database software
• Keyboarding, word processing & database management
• Communicate effectively in written and oral form
• Lift, carry, push and pull various items up to a maximum of 50 pounds
• Classify and organize records
• The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
