Assistant Professor

Position Summary The Department of Journalism and the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication invites applications for a full-time, tenure‑track faculty position in journalism to begin in August 2027. The successful candidate must be able to teach effectively in the journalism curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels and in the college’s Ph.D. program, regularly publish peer‑reviewed research in the field, mentor graduate students, and contribute to service to the college. The effort allocation for the position is 50% teaching, 45% research, and 5% service. Minimum Qualifications A Ph.D. in journalism or mass communication, or a Ph.D. in a related field that includes a stream of journalism‑or mass‑communication‑related research. ABD candidates also will be considered. Additional Requirements The successful candidate will have a research agenda in areas related to journalism, news, or informational media. The candidate should demonstrate a strong or potential research record with peer‑reviewed publications. The candidate should have an interest in mentoring graduate students and engaging students from diverse backgrounds. The candidate should be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise, including but not limited to media law, new technology/AI, political communication, media history, multimedia journalism, and media management. Duties and Responsibilities Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in journalism and related disciplines. Conduct scholarly research and publish peer‑reviewed articles in reputable journals. Mentor graduate students and advise on research projects. Carry out service activities to the department, college, and university.
