Fabricator – Pomona, CA Employment: Temp to Hire Industry: Manufacturing Location: Pomona, CA Schedule: 2nd shift – 4:00 PM – 12:30 AM. Training may be on 1st or 2nd shift depending on business needs. Compensation: $18.50 /hour to start. Upon conversion to direct hire the rate is $19.98 on 1st shift, and $19.98 + $0.40 shift differential on 2nd shift. Unionized workers are eligible for conversion after 90 days of employment and will receive a pay increase every 6 months thereafter. Responsibilities Convert blueprints into shop drawings to be followed in the construction and assembly of sheet metal products. Select gauges and types of metal or non-metallic material according to product specifications. Drill and punch holes in metal for screws, bolts, and rivets. Fasten seams and joints together with welds, bolts, cement, rivets, solder, caulks, metal drive clips, and bonds to assemble components into products or to repair sheet metal items. Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces, seams, and joints of assembled parts using hand tools and portable power tools. Operate punch, shear, and brake machines in the fabrication of custom parts. Set up, program, test, and adjust machines to shear, pierce, extrude, bend or shape material according to specifications. Process work orders in adherence to the production schedule or expedited orders. Read and interpret blueprints to produce desired parts. Install, exchange, align, and lock specified punches, dies, or other fixtures on machines as applicable. Interface with industrial robot (if applicable) for picking and placing materials on a conveyor or other specified device. Load, position, and secure materials against fixtures, clamps, or stops on machines. Observe equipment operations and resolve problems with the machine operator control. Inspect completed workpieces for defects (e.g. jagged edges or marred surfaces). Measure completed workpieces with squares, tape measure, calipers, etc. to verify conformance with specifications. Mark parts with identifying information. Neatly stack fabricated parts on carts, conveyors, or any other specified devices. Properly discard scrap or defected materials that are not serviceable. Initiate scrap tickets to generate part replacement orders. Work with Material Handlers to ensure the material for each job is available (e.g. copper, aluminum, cold rolled steel, galvanized steel). Clean and maintain machines, equipment, and work area to ensure proper functioning and safe working conditions. Assume required maintenance tasks; Class A operators may perform or assist maintenance to repair equipment. Perform other work as directed by supervision. Work indoors, may be assigned to any shift, occasionally lift heavy materials, and wear safety equipment (cut‑resistant gloves and sleeves, safety shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs, etc.). Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 6 months of fabrication experience, specifically forming and punching. Must be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend English. Must be able to make coordinated movements of the hands and arms to grasp and move objects. Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, crawl, and climb. Must be at least 18 years old. Must have reliable transportation. Knowledge of CNC programming. Basic shop math and computer skills. Ability to operate forklift and other electrical material‑lifting equipment. Ability to identify, communicate, and eliminate hazards to maintain a safe work environment. Focus on meeting or exceeding quality and productivity standards. Willingness to assist coworkers and prioritize team objectives. Adaptability to organizational changes and constructive response to challenges. Spatial reasoning ability (mental 3‑D visualization, shape grouping). Must be able to reach, grasp, lift 50 lbs, and push/pull/slide heavy material.
