About The Department The Institute for Population and Precision Health (IPPH) is part of the Biological Sciences Division. It integrates human health behaviors, environmental and social factors, policies, and genetic determinants into studies focused on disease treatment, prevention, and wellness maintenance. IPPH partners with the University of Chicago’s strengths in population science, genetics, cancer epidemiology, microbiome research and epigenomics to improve human health outcomes and to develop a multidisciplinary training program in precision health research. Job Summary The position performs routine assignments related to the documentation and reporting of basic clinical studies and supports decisions that impact clinical research across the U.S. C.B. Timely performance is required because the role is contingent on continued grant funding. Responsibilities Coordinate and perform quality control for observational and interventional studies, including clinic and community-based research. Oversee collection of clinical data, survey data, environmental data, and associated samples and biospecimens. Assist with subject engagement, screening, recruitment, consent, data and specimen collection, and subject follow-up and retention activities. Maintain detailed records, including collecting, extracting, and entering data and preparing basic charts and graphs. Monitor study participants, schedule, and conduct study-related procedures such as interviews, phlebotomies, and follow‑ups; establish data quality control checks. Work with the Research Manager to plan, develop, and evaluate day‑to‑day research activities. Coordinate data acquisition, entry, QC, and query response. Provide leadership and organization in clinic and community settings for the Research Assistant team. Assist the Research Manager with onboarding and training new Research Assistants. Support quality assurance reviews conducted by study sponsors, federal agencies, or designated review groups. Use knowledge of clinical studies to coordinate the collection of analyzable research data and samples. Qualifications Minimum requirements: a college or university degree in a related field and less than 2 years of related work experience. Preferred: 1–3 years of experience with a related job discipline. Preferred Competencies Ability to train others. Knowledge of nutrition research and relevant scientific methods. Knowledge of research techniques, methods, and regulatory policies. Excellent problem‑solving, analytic, and organizational skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Leadership capabilities for frontline research staff.
