Mechanical Design Engineer - Instruments & Accessories

Intuitive Surgical seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to develop complex mechanical and electromechanical systems for next-generation surgical robotics instruments. The role combines hands-on technical design work with cross-functional collaboration, spanning concept through clinical validation in a regulated medical device environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop complex mechanical and electromechanical robotic surgical instruments
• Execute end-to-end engineering process from requirements translation through prototyping and validation
• Generate and execute test methods to characterize prototypes and analyze defects
• Create mechanical design documentation including drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions, and test procedures
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and lead design reviews and risk analyses

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Systems Engineering
• Minimum 3 years designing mechanical products or relevant engineering experience
• Expertise in high-precision mechanisms, electromechanical systems, and tolerance stack analysis
• Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD for complex assemblies and production documentation
• Strong understanding of FEA, GD&T, materials science, DFM/DFA, and statistical analysis
• Demonstrated ability to drive products from concept to launch in regulated environments
• Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and cross-functional collaboration
