Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering

Overview The School of Civil, Aerospace and Design Engineering at the University of Bristol seeks to recruit a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to support and complement our research and educational portfolio in Aerospace Engineering . The School is renowned for delivering high quality teaching and world‑class research, attracting the highest calibre of students and providing an intellectually stimulating environment for academic staff. Your teaching will be on the Aerospace BEng, MEng and MSc degrees, centred around practical activities for first and second year undergraduates. You will join the Bristol Aerospace Centre (BAC), a group of around 40 academics combining cutting‑edge fundamental science with strong industrial and international links for exploitation and technology transfer. The Centre’s areas of interest include aerodynamics, aeroelasticity/vibration suppression, aeroacoustics, turbulence, aerial robotics, flight dynamics and control, theoretical and applied fluid mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, optimisation, experimental aerodynamics, active and passive flow control, and space engineering. Application areas include fixed‑wing aircraft, rotorcraft, UAVs, spacecraft, renewable energy and wind engineering. Responsibilities Conduct world‑leading research in an aspect of aerospace engineering aligned with the Bristol Aerospace Centre. Apply for funding and supervise research students, supported by our established research team and facilities. Develop and deliver undergraduate teaching in electronics and aircraft design, built and test, as well as contribute to broader teaching efforts in Aerospace Engineering. Present research at international conferences and publish high quality peer‑reviewed journal papers. Build research collaborations, including with industry. Support students through our tutorial system and supervise student projects. Contribute to academic administration within the School and Faculty. Qualifications Strong background in aerospace engineering or an allied subject, with an ability to teach practical topics, particularly electronics. Proven track record for excellence in your research area. Strong industrial links (desirable). Ability to create new knowledge through novel and insightful research and to translate research into application. Ability to deliver inspiring teaching across all levels and class sizes of our teaching programme. Consistent output of published work and funding applications to support research. Research ambition includes working collaboratively and supporting the research of other academics. A desire to support students to learn and willingness to continually develop teaching skills within a supportive academic community. First degree and PhD in a subject relevant to engineering.
