Paralegal Job Description

The Paralegal will assist attorney(s) by providing clerical and research support, including document preparation and review; interviewing clients and witnesses; research, investigations, and fact checking; and trial preparation.

Responsibilities:

·      Request and collect supporting documents and materials from clients as needed

·      File preparation, scanning, copying, mailing and administrative duties as assigned

·      Drafting pleadings including complaints, enforcement documents, petitions

·      Prepare discovery as needed

·      Research docket deadlines and court rules

·      Backup docket/calendar

·      Rules updates and interface with docketing/calendar vendors

·      Prepare witnesses and assemble case materials, exhibits and documents for meetings, hearings, depositions, and court appearances

·      Collaborate with attorneys, client groups, and other support staff to address and resolve various legal matters and compliance issues

·      Assist in all phases in trial, arbitration, mediation and deposition preparation including e-discovery productions, data review and all forms of discovery

·      Document & Case Management Support

·      Cite checking

·      Prepare appellate appendices, excerpts of record and memo of costs

·      Manage document productions

·      Communicate and provide management and organization of discovery support for all matters including gathering and analyzing documents, privilege review and/or redaction, drafting requests and responses

·      Process e-filing for enforcement, renewals of judgements and other discreet instances as needed

·      Serve as point of contact in mass litigation

·      Assist with other special projects as assigned

Required Skills:

·      Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, as well as, organize, prioritize and multi-task to meet time deadlines

·      Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail

·     Excellent interpersonal skills in communicating with all office personnel, clients and attorneys

·         Self-starter with excellent organization skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a team-oriented environment

Experience and Skills required :

·         At least 5 years' experience as a paralegal

·         Minimum 3 years litigation experience in California, with working knowledge of CA Code of Civil Procedure (CCP) as well as Superior Court rules and procedures, appellate and federal

·         Hands-on experience with civil litigation discovery and trial preparation

·         Experience evaluating and assessing cases

·         Detailed knowledge of MS Office (including Word, Excel and Outlook)

·         Case management software experience

·         Familiarity with legal forms software, LexisNexis/Westlaw and e-filing

·         Excellent English language skills - both written and verbal

·         Experience with timekeeping and billable hours required

·         Paralegal Certificate or equivalent on the job experience as a Litigation Assistant; College Degree a plus

·         Solid understanding of every stage of case management, from inception to mediation, trial/settlement to post-mediation, post-trial/post-settlement

·         Working knowledge of e-discovery platforms

·         Ability to take initiative, be resourceful and anticipate needs of attorneys and clients
