Public Benefit Specialist

Position Overview Ensemble is seeking a dedicated revenue cycle associate to interview uninsured/under‑insured patients, determine eligibility for Medicaid or financial assistance programs, and manage the application process. The position is paid between $18.65 and $20.50 per hour, depends on experience, and is located on‑site at Bon Secours – Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, VA. Key Responsibilities Interview uninsured/under‑insured patients to determine eligibility for state Medicaid benefit or location financial assistance programs. Assist with application processes to facilitate accurate and appropriate submissions. Follow‑up on submitted applications to ensure timely billing or adjustment processing. Review all referred patients for program eligibility opportunities, initialize and coordinate the application process. Effectively communicate with patients to obtain required documents for the application. Document all relevant actions and communication steps in assigned patient accounting systems. Update insurance information and ensure timely billing or adjustment posting. Maintain working knowledge of all state and federal program requirements; share information with colleagues and supervisors. Develop and maintain proactive working relationships with county, state, and federal Medicaid caseworker partners, collaborating with other revenue cycle departments and associates. Undertake other reasonable job duties as assigned. Qualifications 1–2 years of experience in the healthcare industry, interacting with patients regarding hospital financial issues. Understanding of revenue cycle processes—including admission, billing, payments, and denials. Comprehensive knowledge of patient insurance processes for obtaining authorizations and benefit verification. Knowledge of health insurance requirements and medical terminology or CPT/procedure codes. Experience in patient access with managed care/insurance and call center experience highly preferred. Must be inquisitive and demonstrate openness to innovation, including AI, to improve processes and patient experiences. Education & Certifications Minimum education: High School Diploma or GED. Combination of post‑secondary education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Certification: CRCR within 9 months of hire (company paid).
