Clerk of Council / Community Affairs Specialist

CLERK OF COUNCIL & COMMUNITY AFFAIRS SPECIALIST

The City of Sunbury is seeking a qualified, detail-oriented, and service-driven individual to serve as Clerk of Council and Community Affairs Specialist. This full-time position serves as the official record-keeper for City Council and ensures the integrity, transparency, and compliance of the legislative process (about two-thirds of job). In addition, this role supports the City’s communication, outreach, and public engagement efforts (about one-third of job). Key Responsibilities Attend all regular and special City Council and committee meetings. Prepare agendas and minutes. Ensure proper execution and documentation of Council actions. Manage records, public records requests, and archival systems. Support boards/commissions, including records, appointments, and meeting documentation. Utilize agenda and meeting management technology, including livestreaming and archiving meetings. Assist with City communications including website updates, social media, and press releases. Support public engagement initiatives, community events, and outreach efforts. Qualifications High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or related field preferred. 3–5 years of administrative experience in a municipal, state, or federal government setting required. Experience as a Clerk of Council preferred. Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) or Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) designation preferred. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of municipal law, public records requirements, and legislative procedures preferred. Evening and occasional weekend availability is required of this at-will position. Compensation and Benefits Starting wage for this position is expected to be between $25.00 to $27.00 per hour.
