This role operates, monitors, and maintains boiler systems and related industrial equipment within a high-volume production environment. The position updates maintenance activities in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), performs mechanical and basic electrical repairs, and ensures all boiler operations meet safety and performance standards. The Boiler Operator / Maintenance Technician supports safe, efficient plant operations by conducting inspections, completing preventive maintenance, and responding to equipment issues as they arise.

Responsibilities

• Update work statuses and accurately document all tasks completed in the CMMS using a mobile device.
• Monitor and maintain boilers to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Inspect fluids, including water and gas, within boilers and related equipment, and make necessary adjustments to maintain proper operating levels and conditions.
• Repair boiler machinery such as piping, valves, and related components.
• Replace defective or worn boiler parts and components as needed.
• Record daily readings of boiler performance and related system parameters.
• Adjust equipment and controls to ensure the boiler system operates safely and within specified parameters.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of boiler rooms and related facilities.
• Read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation related to boiler systems and industrial equipment.
• Perform basic electrical and mechanical repairs on boilers and other industrial machinery.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on machines, including industrial washers and dryers.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on mechanical systems and industrial laundry equipment in accordance with standard maintenance procedures and schedules.
• Use welding, hand tools, power tools, and work with electrical motors as part of maintenance and repair activities.
• Follow all safety procedures and promote a strong culture of safety in daily work.
• Work independently and as part of a team to complete assigned tasks and support overall plant operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support maintenance and production needs.

Essential Skills

• Experience with boiler maintenance, boiler systems, and boiler room operations.
• Ability to monitor, adjust, and maintain boiler fluids such as water and gas.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to perform mechanical repairs.
• Basic electrical aptitude and ability to perform basic electrical repairs and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues on industrial machines.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
• Familiarity with standard maintenance procedures and preventive maintenance schedules.
• Knowledge of proper safety techniques in an industrial maintenance environment.
• Computer literacy, including familiarity with Internet-based software and MS Office.
• Ability to use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and mobile devices to document work.
• Proficiency in written and verbal communication.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs routinely and perform physical tasks such as bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, twisting, and lifting.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time in a production environment.
• Ability to work on a set schedule and perform overtime as needed, including potential weekend shifts.
• Ability to comprehend and complete all required training.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Stationary Engineer License.
• Skills in welding, including the safe use of welding equipment.
• Experience using hand tools and power tools for maintenance and repair.
• Experience working with electrical motors and mechanical systems.
• Basic knowledge of industrial laundry equipment and applicable codes.
• Experience performing maintenance on industrial washers and dryers.
• Mechanical knowledge and strong mechanical aptitude, including the ability to be mechanically inclined and troubleshoot mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with preventive maintenance practices and documentation.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to meet attendance requirements and adhere to a shift-based schedule that may include weekends.
• Comfort working from elevated heights using ladders, mezzanines, and aerial lifts.

Work Environment

Work takes place in a high-volume production warehouse setting with regular exposure to outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, as well as dust and noise. The role requires frequent movement and physical activity, including routinely moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling items weighing up to 50 lbs, and occasionally up to 50 lbs. Daily tasks involve bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, twisting, lifting, and using hands for grasping and other manipulations. The position requires standing and walking for long periods of time throughout the shift. Work may be performed from elevated heights using ladders, mezzanines, and aerial lifts. The environment follows standard industrial safety practices, and reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. The schedule is shift-based and may include weekends, with overtime required as needed, in a production-focused, fast-paced facility.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL.

The pay range for this position is $36.85 - $36.85/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
