Financial CounselorAs a Financial Counselor, you will manage hospital financial assistance programs, helping patients navigate the complexities of their healthcare costs while ensuring organizational policies are consistently met.Every day, you will estimate patient liability, secure payments, and investigate all potential coverage sources—including private insurance, Workers' Compensation, and government programs—while acting as a vital liaison between patients, medical staff, and external agencies.To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate meticulous attention to detail in processing charity applications and documentation, combined with the professional communication skills necessary to resolve billing concerns and secure financial outcomes for both the facility and the patient.Counsel insured and uninsured patients regarding financial responsibility, estimated patient liability, and available financial assistance or payment options.Screen patients for eligibility for hospital financial assistance, charity care, foundation programs, and other programs.Complete, submit, and follow up on charity care and financial assistance applications to ensure timely eligibility determinations.Collect patient portions as applicable and assist patients with establishing approved payment plans in accordance with hospital policies.Coordinate with leadership as required for approval of payment plans or settlements based on established approval guidelines.Perform account adjustments or write-offs in accordance with hospital financial assistance policies as deemed necessary.Student loan repayment program offered!Job RequirementsRequiredHigh School Diploma or GEDPreferredTwo (2) years of health care experienceWhere You'll WorkAt CHI Mercy Health, you'll discover a place where your professional growth is deeply valued within a truly supportive and rewarding environment.
