Mental Health Technician

Join us at the Carolina Center for Behavioral Health, a 156-bed private behavioral health system located in Greenville, South Carolina. We specialize in psychiatric programs and substance abuse treatments, serving Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and areas throughout South Carolina and western North Carolina. We offer various levels of care including inpatient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient treatment.

We are seeking a Mental Health Technician who will provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The role includes the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention, and assistance with activities of daily living. The Mental Health Technician must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including male and female, adolescents and adults as well as dually diagnosed adults.

Summary of Job Duties:

• Provide direct patient care under the supervision of an RN to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of these patients and support the maintenance of therapeutic milieu.

Essential Job Functions:

• Conduct 12-minute rounds on patients per policy.
• Participate in restraint and seclusion of patients when required.
• Support facility service excellence standards.
• Give baths to patients and change patient's briefs, when required.
• Attend mandatory training.
• Help maintain the therapeutic milieu on the unit, including facilitation of community groups.

Qualifications:

• High school level reading and writing skills
• Acceptable oral and written communication skills
• Ability to maintain information as highly confidential
• Professional telephone etiquette and customer service skills
• Certification as nursing assistant or patient care technician preferred
• Basic knowledge of human behavior or principles of psychology
• Skills in dealing courteously with the public and other staff within the organization
• Ability to learn and develop necessary skills within a reasonable time frame
