Responsibilities:

• Perform blood draws and specimen collection with proficiency using straight needles and butterfly needles
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test requirements
• Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures in a courteous and clear manner to patients
• Ensure specimen samples are stored and transported following established protocols to maintain sample integrity
• Match laboratory requisitions with specimen data, correct labeling, and verify all test orders for accuracy
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures as necessary
• Assist with specimen packaging for transport and ensure proper storage conditions
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and wear appropriate PPE at all times
• Attend annual departmental training and participate in other duties as assigned
• Provide excellent patient service, answering inquiries and ensuring patient comfort during specimen collection

Required Skills:

• Proven experience in blood draws and specimen handling
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to laboratory procedures
• Knowledge of specimen labeling, centrifuging, and storage techniques
• Ability to follow instructions and ensure specimen integrity

Additional Skills & Requirements:

• Bilingual Spanish speaking skills required
• Pediatric experience is preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent required; phlebotomy certification is a plus
• Prior experience performing venipuncture and specimen processing in a clinical setting
• Flexibility to work Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm
• Reliable, professional, and comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare environment
