Radiology Technician

Operates imaging equipment to make images of designated portions of the body as ordered by the physician. Positions and instructs the patient radiological examinations, adjusts imaging equipment, and determines the proper voltage, current and desired exposure time for each image

Essential Functions

• Instructs, prepares, and positions the patients and performs diagnostic x-ray and, if qualified, CT examinations.
• Selects appropriate equipment and adjusts technical factors for each desired image.
• Arranges and adjusts immobilization and supportive devices to obtain precise positioning and to preclude patient movement and shields patients according to radiation safety procedures.
• Prepare and administer contrast media for certain examinations.
• Completes all required documentation including imaging requests, patient ID cards, billing information, patient history and consent forms and appropriate logbooks, either in electronic or paper formats.
• Electronically manages radiologist's preliminary and final reports and ensures copies of those reports are forwarded to the appropriate department(s).
• Prepares and scans / transmits x-ray/US/CT images to radiologist.
• Maintains appropriate electronic or CD patient records.
• Cleans and maintains CT/CT facilities and equipment.
• Maintains in an orderly fashion x-ray films/folders, index cards and related records.
• Complies with all radiation safety procedures that protect self and the patient.
• Transports patients during examination procedures.
• May be required to work unusual hours, shifts or be on call.
• Carry a cell phone when on call to respond to emergencies.

Performance Requirements

• Knowledge of theories, principles, and techniques of diagnostic imaging and related procedures.
• Knowledge of principles of physics, electricity and related physical sciences as applied to radiology.
• Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology as related to radiology.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of hazards of radiological materials and safety precautions.
• Knowledge of CIMC procedures and record keeping requirements.
• Knowledge of operation, maintenance, and adjustment of radiographic and film equipment.
• Ability to operate a variety of radiographic and film processing equipment.
• Ability to position patients for a wide variety of diagnostic examinations.
• Deals with patients who may be under physical or emotional stress.
• Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with patients, medical staff, and other fellow workers.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a Critical Access Hospital and Rural Health Clinic setting. Frequent interaction with patients, physicians, and CIH staff is required. Employees may be exposed to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to clinical environments. Adherence to safety policies and health regulations is mandatory.

Education

Current CA ARRT and CRT License

Experience

At least 2 years of Radiology Technician Experience

Licenses & Certifications

• Must possess current ARRT and CRT License and have any combination of training and experience, which would provide the applicant with the required knowledge and abilities, as documented with current Radiologic Technologist Certificates or Permits issued by the California State Department of Health and in accordance with the American Registry.
• Possession of a valid CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) certification.
