Field Technology Specialist- Fairfax VA

Position Summary Installs, maintains, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs various computer, network, and electronic physical security systems, low voltage systems, cabling, and associated equipment for optimum performance. This is a travel position. You will be traveling 85% of the time. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Install, set up and troubleshoot low voltage infrastructure for network, physical security systems, and low voltage electronics systems. Apply working knowledge of physical security system devices, major components such as, cameras, card readers, control panels and power supplies, biometric devices, electronic strikes, mortise, and magnetic locks. Evaluate performance of installed equipment; provide on-going QA/QC feedback. Install, set up and troubleshoot all information technology systems to include Windows Operating System Configurations. Demonstrate knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in the production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Assemble, disassemble, and install video and data communication lines and hardware, computer systems, security and surveillance systems using hand and power tools. Configure, install, and repair computers for hardware, network settings, system hardening, and additional software as required. Arrange and coordinate local procurement of material and equipment required for project completion of assigned tasks. Arrange and coordinate receipt, installation, and tracking of purchased materials. Provide project deliverables. Competencies Achievement Focus - Demonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles. Education/Experience Associates degree (AAS preferred) from an accredited institution that requires 2 years' experience may be substituted for the degree, or certification and experience. 3 Years' relevant computer or installation experience. Experience with IP camera installation and maintenance preferred. Experience in troubleshooting and maintaining low voltage physical security and VMS is a plus. Language Ability Read and understand work orders, instructions, schedules, schematics, specifications, manuals, wire diagrams, blueprints, and technical drawings. Draft reports and business correspondence. Effectively present information and respond to questions from co-workers, managers and customers. Mathematical Ability Calculate amounts related to performance of the position such as discounts, proportions, percentages, distances, area, circumference, and volume. Apply concepts of basic geometry. Reasoning Ability Apply low voltage and basic electric theory (voltage, amperes, and ohms) and associated test equipment to install, test, troubleshoot, or replace electronic power, communication, and control systems. Capability to interpret and edit technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models; familiar with interpretation and use of computer-aided design (CAD) drawings. Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Computer Skills Proficient in Microsoft Applications.Working knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems including Windows 11. Demonstrate understanding of Information Technology, computer concepts, applications, and configuration; electronic and computer equipment hardware and software. Demonstrate understanding of layer 1 and layer 2 of the Open Systems Interconnection model (OSI). Have a basic understanding of networking, the use of applications controlling configurations and operations of low voltage physical security and video management systems and their related hardware. Ability to install Win11 OS images, update drivers, and make configuration changes following written instructions and experience. Certificates and Licenses Technology Systems/Components Certifications desired. (A+, Network+, Security+, PSP, BICSI or other structured cable training / certification) Driver's License Supervisory Responsibilities No supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment The noise level can range from low to high. The environment varies from in-doors to outdoors exposed to varying low or high temperatures. While in the field, the employee is required to wear the approved uniform; see management for specific uniform choices. Employee may be required to perform work while wearing personal protective equipment to include approved hard hat, steel-toed boots, ear and eye protective equipment and approved safety vest. The employee will be expected to be a motivated self-starter with an ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a demanding work environment and work under the direction of senior personnel in the functional area. An employee will be expected to keep up with constant shifting of daily priorities in a dynamic environment, exhibiting adaptability with a positive attitude. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; speak and hear, use close vision. Must be able to distinguish colors or possess other means to correctly terminate cabling. The employee must be able to work up to 20' on ladders and up to 90' high using a large boom lift. The employee must be able to work in outdoor environments exposed to varying low or high temperatures. The employee must regularly be able to lift 60 pounds.
