Senior Lead Software Engineer - Payments APIs

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• We are looking for someone with formal training or certification in software engineering concepts plus 5+ years of applied experience, along with demonstrated coaching and mentoring ability.
• We need 10+ years of experience building and running distributed systems at scale.
• We require 3+ years of experience leading software engineering teams and delivering complex platforms or products with measurable results.
• Strong hands-on backend development experience in Java is required; other modern backend stacks are also acceptable.
• We need proven experience building external-facing APIs and integration platforms, including contract-first design, lifecycle and version management, security controls, and operational readiness.
• Strong security knowledge for external integrations is important, including OAuth2/OIDC concepts, mTLS, PKI/certificates, secrets management, secure SDLC, and threat modeling.
• We are looking for experience building AI-enabled product capabilities in production beyond basic chat, including grounded retrieval/search, structured tool or action execution, guardrails, evaluation practices, monitoring, and auditability.
• Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods, plus a strong understanding of agile and modern SDLC practices, is required.
• We need solid expertise in application resiliency and observability, including logs, metrics, traces, performance engineering, and incident management.
• Experience working in regulated environments with strong controls, compliance expectations, and reliability standards is required.

• We will rely on you to define the architecture for an AI-first Developer Portal, including agent-ready workflows, tool and action schemas, context assembly, and safe execution.
• You will build and operate AI-enabled support experiences that combine an assistant with workflow automation and use contextual signals from client state, integration progress, and troubleshooting data.
• You will design and deliver secure external API platform capabilities, covering contract-first API design, versioning strategy, backward compatibility, idempotency, pagination, consistent error handling, and developer usability.
• You will own authentication and credential flows for external integrations, including certificate handling, credential rotation, and secure onboarding journeys.
• You will establish engineering standards for AI and automation in production, including evaluation and testing strategy, release controls, telemetry, audit logging, and incident response.
• You will remain hands-on about half the time through critical-path coding, architecture reviews, code reviews, debugging, and performance and resiliency improvements.
• You will drive cross-functional delivery by partnering with API owners, security teams, and shared services to create a unified client experience across distributed backend ownership.
• You will coach and develop engineers by setting expectations for quality, delivery discipline, design rigor, and collaboration, while strengthening technical and leadership capability.
