Manager Nursing - Labor and Delivery

Position Overview Manager Nursing – Labor and Delivery (Day Shift) at Swedish First Hill Campus, Seattle. The role oversees clinical and operational activities for the unit, ensuring high-quality patient care in a diverse and collaborative environment. Responsibilities Lead the overall management and leadership of a unit or group of patient care units within Nursing Services. Ensure provision of patient care 24 hours a day and coordinate daily care delivery in collaboration with the healthcare team. Establish and enforce standards of patient care and nursing practice specific to the unit. Develop, implement, and monitor unit‑based quality improvement programs and goals for quality patient care. Ensure compliance with department standards, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating delivery of patient care and using corrective actions for identified problems. Conduct rounds, evaluate patient and family satisfaction, and intervene appropriately. Act as a patient advocate to clarify and evaluate ethical or legal issues and support cultural practices. Track staff turnover and take proactive steps to reduce turnover among all personnel categories. Demonstrate clinical competence by assisting with patient care and spending time on all shifts to assess care, coach, develop, evaluate, and advocate for staff. Collaborate with the clinical nurse specialist and/or clinical educator to identify, plan, and implement an educational program relevant to the service. Address step‑two grievances and provide timely resolution. Interview, hire, and onboard experienced RNs, travelers, and residency/fellowship candidates for Labor and Delivery. Partner with the CNS, Perinatal Educator, and the team on evidence‑based practice changes to improve care. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program, or ADN with a commitment to obtain a BSN within two years of hire. Washington Registered Nurse license upon hire. National Provider BLS certification from the American Heart Association upon hire. Minimum of three years of recent experience in a related clinical nursing area. Must meet criteria of a Registered Nurse. Preferred: Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field. Preferred: At least one year of first‑line management experience.
