Job Summary Registered Nurses in the Adult Medicine / Pulmonary Services Unit on Chandler 6 North and 6 East at UK Chandler Hospital provide care for adult patients who are moderately stable, with fluctuating patient acuity, have complex needs and require comprehensive care. Patient care will include frequent assessment of pulmonary, renal, cardiac, vascular and neurological conditions. Duties Providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient‑centered care, including assessment, documentation, planning, implementation, teaching, development, and evaluation of a comprehensive nursing plan of care. Delivering direct patient care while ensuring patient satisfaction. Training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistants). Adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations. Collaborating with nursing staff and physicians to enhance communication and expected patient outcomes through nursing process and patient‑centered care plans. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities Knowledge of Maslow’s eight Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Framework, and Swanson’s Caring model. Superb direct patient care and critical thinking skills. Basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet. Effective communication with patients, families, co‑workers and physicians. Strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills. Motivated, proactive, confident in advocating for patients and families. Team oriented with open, honest communication with staff and physicians. Exceptional technical skills and proven ability to work independently or as part of a team. Qualifications Active Kentucky RN license or comparable license in good standing. AHA Basic Life Support certification. Preferred Qualifications BSN degree. At least 1 year of RN experience. Shift Must be able to work TWO 12‑hour DAY shifts (7 AM‑7 30 PM), every Saturday & Sunday Day shift. Work 24 hours/week and get paid for 32 hours/week per the Weekend Premium Position (WEPP). Physical Requirements The essential functions of this position include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50‑100 pounds daily and 25‑50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods. Work conditions may involve exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.
