Technical Writer

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer with experience in product communications, marketing support, and organizational messaging within technology-driven environments.

This role will support technology initiatives by developing, preparing, branding, and coordinating high-quality communications related to system implementations, process improvements, data initiatives, and digital modernization efforts.

The Technical Writer will serve as a bridge between technical teams, project managers, business stakeholders, and leadership, ensuring that system changes, enhancements, and business value are communicated clearly to internal teams, external customers, and executive leadership.

The role will support communications across multiple technology initiatives and platforms, including Accela, GIS, Power BI, Scribe, Jira, custom web forms, and other digital solutions.

The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and communication skills, the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and accessible language, and experience developing polished, leadership-ready materials.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, Public Administration, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• 3+ years of experience in technical writing, product communications, marketing support, corporate communications, or a similar role
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical and operational information into clear, concise, audience-friendly communications
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint

Preferred Experience

• Experience supporting technology, software, system implementation, or digital transformation initiatives
• Experience working within a local government or public-sector environment
• Experience creating branded materials aligned with organizational communication standards
• Experience developing internal and external communication plans
• Experience using email marketing or communication platforms such as Constant Contact
• Experience coordinating messaging with centralized Communications or Marketing teams
• Familiarity with enterprise platforms such as Accela, GIS, Power BI, Jira, Scribe, or similar technologies

Key Responsibilities

• Draft and prepare high-quality communications related to system changes, enhancements, releases, and modernization initiatives
• Develop professional materials, including executive summaries, staff announcements, customer notifications, presentations, and one-page initiative overviews
• Partner with Product Owners and Project Managers to develop communication materials that clearly articulate purpose, impact, benefits, and business value
• Coordinate communication distribution through approved platforms, including Constant Contact and internal email channels
• Serve as a communications liaison between technology teams, business stakeholders, and Communications teams for major initiatives
• Maintain consistency in messaging, terminology, tone, branding, and formatting
• Translate technical project updates into leadership-ready summaries highlighting outcomes, efficiencies, and operational improvements
• Assist with developing portfolio-level communications that demonstrate modernization progress and overall business value
• Track communication engagement metrics when applicable and provide feedback to project leadership
• Perform quality-control reviews to ensure all communications and deliverables meet professional presentation standards

Schedule & Work Environment

• Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
• Overtime: No regular overtime expected
• After-Hours Availability: Required only for go-live activities or emergencies. No regular evening, weekend, or holiday work is expected.
• Contract Length: 6 to 12 months, with the possibility of adjustment based on project requirements and timelines
• Location: Lawrenceville, GA
• Work Environment: Candidates must be available to attend on-site meetings when requested with advance notice.

What Were Looking For

The strongest candidate will be someone who can take highly technical information and turn it into clear, polished, professional communications for both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience supporting technology implementations, executive communications, and public-sector environments will be especially valuable.

This is a Contract position based out of Lawrenceville, GA.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
