Job Description:Brown University Athletics and Recreation is currently seeking candidates for a part-time assistant Fencing coach who specializes in saber. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 38 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).This is a part-time, varied hours position that assists the Head Fencing Coach. The Assistant Coach will support the Head Coach by overseeing practices and competitions, training players, developing game strategies, identifying potential student athlete recruits and occasional armory.Essential Functions:Specialize in saber.Assist in organizing, preparing, and conducting team practices, training, and competitions.Assist in identifying and recruiting prospective student- athletes for the intercollegiate Women's fencing program, in accordance with NCAA rules, regulations, guidelines and standards.Provide guidance and mentorship to student athletes.Provide assistance in the coordination and administration of the program as required.Assist with ensuring a safe training and competitive environment.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum of 2 years of coaching experience on the club or intercollegiate level, with a specialty in coaching saber required.Job CompetenciesDemonstrated competitive coaching skills in saber.Ability to recruit within NCAA and Ivy League Rules.Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and computer skills, necessaryDemonstrated ability to work with and relate well to studentsExcellent sport specific technical, tactical and strategic knowledge.Basic proficiency in Excel, Word, internet and email capabilities.Social media experience, helpful.Familiarity with ARMS and Teamworks, or similar, preferred.Prior experience with video editing software, helpful.Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the game and ability to coach and motivate.The successful candidate for this position will be required to complete a criminal background, Education and DMV check satisfactory to Brown University prior to commencing employment.All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the compliance office and appropriate parties.
