Summary The Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHCS) is recruiting three physicians for its SCI/D section to assist with Spinal Cord Injuries and Disorders in the Aurora, Colorado facility. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected, but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements United States citizenship. Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification. For physicians in accredited residency programs who would otherwise meet the basic requirements, eligibility as a Physician Resident Provider (PRP) is possible on an intermittent basis under specific guidelines. Duties Provide clinical coverage for the inpatient spinal cord injury unit, including acute inpatient rehabilitation, subacute rehabilitation, sustaining care, respite care, and occasional hospice. Participate in the SCI/D Consult Team, reviewing internal medical center consults, referrals from other VA SCI/D care networks, external community referrals, and SCI/D specialty clinics. Take expected regular call responsibilities for evenings and weekends in collaboration with the PMRS team. Offer secondary coverage of PMRS, documenting mastery of SCI/D skills. Assess and prescribe treatment for inpatients and outpatients referred through consultations. Organize specialty procedures such as chemodenervation injections for spasticity. Lead interdisciplinary teams and develop ongoing relationships with medical subspecialties involved in the care of complex SCI/D patients. Coordinate recommendations for medical equipment and participate in strategic planning, resource utilization management, and stakeholder engagement. Engage in education activities for residents, staff, and hospital departments, and lead educational initiatives related to SCI/D care. Participate in performance improvement activities and program development to continually improve patient care. Collaborate with rehabilitation nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists, recreational therapists, prosthetists/orthotists, social workers, psychologists, audiologists, optometrists, physicians, PAs, and NPs. Hold an academic appointment within the University of Colorado Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and serve as faculty, teaching residents and overseeing resident care. Act as the physician delegate of the Chief of the SCI/D Service, participating in faculty committees and medical student/residency training.
