Transportation Maint Tech I / II / III - Collin Co. Maintenance Office

Essential Duties The essential duties for the Transportation Maintenance Tech I, II and III include: Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices. Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards. Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards and comfort stations. Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush. Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Performs all other job responsibilities as assigned Additional duties for Transportation Maintenance Tech II and III Additional duties for Transportation Maintenance Tech II and III include: Inspects routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. - Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems. Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at point of supply to ensure construction materials meet Department specifications. Works on a survey crew; operates survey instruments such as theodolite, transit and level, electronic distance meter, and total survey station. Additional duties for Transportation Maintenance Tech III Additional duties for Transportation Maintenance Tech III include: Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications. Trains other employees. Minimum Qualifications Education: No education required. Experience for Transportation Maintenance Tech (TMT): TMT I = No experience required TMT II = 1 year experience* TMT III = 2 years experience* *Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications . Licenses and Certifications Valid driver's license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement or have obtained a CDL "A" License, within 120 calendar days from date of employment. Currently Military or Veterans: US Military CDL Equivalent Conditions of Employment: US Military License candidates must successfully obtain Texas Class "A" CDL within 120 days of employment. Preferred Qualifications Class A CDL (No restrictions) Background in roadway maintenance Light/Heavy equipment operating Competencies The required Competencies for the Transportation Maintenance Tech I, II, and III include: Knowledge of: The use of applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade The use of light and heavy highway equipment Maintaining a safe working relationship with others Follow verbal and written instructions Applicable inspection methods, procedures and techniques Basic vehicle mechanics, maintenance and repair procedures Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines and specification codes Prioritizing and organizing work assignments Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling Reaching-extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment Subject to extreme heat and cold: below 32 degrees and above 100 degrees for longer than a hour Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
