Service Field Supervisor

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Service Field Supervisor provides field support to clients and leads a team of field engineers. Responsibilities include commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, or retrofit of mechanical and electrical systems, as well as controls, communications, and computer equipment. The supervisor documents procedures, interfaces with the Quality Department, Project Engineers and Managers, Process Engineers, client personnel, and other service technicians. The role also monitors Quality Assurance requirements, performs QC checks, compiles O&M information, and assists in creating final IOM manuals.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead a team of Field Engineers and provide mentoring, training, and leadership. Start‑up, preventive maintenance, and service of vertical turbine pumps, split‑coupled inline pumps, cooling towers, and centrifugal chillers. Start‑up and troubleshoot variable‑frequency drives (Eaton and Allen‑Bradley). Install and repair power distribution systems, including electric motors, motor control centers, and variable‑speed drives. Interface closely with Project Engineers, managers, and client personnel. Assist the Production Department in assembly and training of factory personnel. Compile O&M information and transmit critical updates during projects. Assist in compiling final sets of IOM manuals and create legible “red‑line” drawings for the Project Manager. Arrange timely hand‑offs from construction and direct field commissioning. Document commissioning of mechanical and electrical portions of the project. Assist in Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions, including QC checks. Carry out any additional responsibilities assigned by TAS.

JOB SKILLS

Strong leadership and mentoring ability. Reading of drawings and schematics. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project. Willingness to travel extensively both domestically and internationally. Experience with at least one brand of PLC or building controls. Ability to work independently on job sites.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

HVAC trade school and/or apprenticeship training preferred. Military training or technical work experience may be considered in lieu of trade school certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Proven track record as a Field Engineer III or equivalent leading field teams. Significant project field experience in construction support, startup, repair, and maintenance. Experience with variable‑frequency drive start‑up and troubleshooting (Eaton and Allen‑Bradley). Verification of compliance with ASHRAE, ASME, and other relevant codes and practices. Experience with centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, and VFDs. Extensive travel capability (domestic and international). Ability to work in field construction conditions. Applicable safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 10 General Construction, NFPA‑70E). Safe driving record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

Site‑based with frequent site visits to manufacturing floors. Some office work for documentation, reporting, and meetings. Travel to various locations (e.g., Houston) required. Regular lifting of up to 50 lbs and routine movement of materials. Requirements for normal vision, no color blindness, and use of safety glasses. Use of earplugs recommended; steel‑toe boots mandatory.
