About the Position:

Applicants for this role will be applying for both the examination and the job vacancy at the same time.

This position plays a crucial role in supporting the mission and strategic objectives of our organization by promoting health and wellness, empowering the public health workforce, enhancing services through agile operations, and optimizing data collection and performance metrics.

The MCAH Division Director is tasked with managing, overseeing, and providing policy direction for the MCAH Division within the Center for Family Health. This role also serves as California's Title V MCAH Director, guiding programs and projects associated with the federal Title V Block Grant program. The Director cultivates collaborative relationships with local health departments to implement MCAH initiatives and advance the health and well-being of California's diverse communities.

As a key member of the Department's executive leadership team, the MCAH Division Director collaborates within the Center for Family Health to communicate and coordinate public health program activities and service delivery aimed at improving maternal, child, and adolescent health while addressing health inequities in partnership with other Department programs and agencies. The Director stays informed about current literature, including policy, systems, and environmental change strategies, as well as advancements in the field that may influence the Division's work. Additionally, the Director acts as a spokesperson and liaison to key stakeholders, including MCAH program participants, regarding the Division's goals and objectives.

This position operates under the general supervision of the Deputy Director of the Center for Family Health, which encompasses three divisions: MCAH, Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC), and Genetic Disease Screening Program (GDSP).

Telework Information:

This role may offer telework options. The extent of telework is determined by the Department and may change in accordance with our Telework Program. All teleworking employees must be residents of California, as stipulated by Government Code 14200. Candidates residing outside California may be considered for interviews; however, the selected individual must establish primary residency in California before appointment and maintain it as a condition of employment. Failure to comply may lead to the rescinding of the job offer.

Travel may be necessary for this position. Travel reimbursement will be based on the employee's designated headquarters, as outlined in the duty statement, and will adhere to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commuting expenses to the designated headquarters office will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Key Responsibilities (refer to the Duty Statement in the job posting for comprehensive details):

• Provide leadership and direction to managers and staff in designing, developing, and implementing statewide strategies and policies for all MCAH-related projects and programs.
• Oversee the planning, development, and performance measurement across the Division, mentoring subordinate managers through performance reviews, regular one-on-ones, feedback loops, goal setting, and effective communication.
• Collaborate with other divisions, agencies, and community partners on public health initiatives to reduce health disparities while maintaining the trust and cooperation of staff, local health jurisdictions, healthcare professionals, research institutions, and other stakeholders involved in the implementation, evaluation, and development of maternal, child, and adolescent health services.
